View Full Version : '64 Valiant Build

Here's our '64 Valiant project aka Violent. After we built the Raybestos GTO-R, most of the events that Raybestos scheduled it for were trade shows and static appearances (aside from OUSCI, PowerTour and Gingerman), so we didn't get to thrash on it as much as we would have liked. This car will be ours, taking what we learned that was right and could be improved upon with the GTO and making an even better car to tear up the racetrack. And you almost never see Mopar cars at the Autocross/Road Racing events. BangShift.com is covering the build as well, so many of you will have seen some of this already.

Power is a Max Wedge based block, with Indy heads and Hilborn stack injection backed by a Tremec T-56.

Our starting victim. A really nice California car.

You do love a challenge! I used to own a 67 Barracuda while in college. I loved that car. Wish I still had it. Cannot wait to see what you do with it!!!!!

My absolute next car I will build someday for my kids. Aluminum sb or Gen III Hemi but keep the factory suspension. See if I could fit some 275/35/18 on the front.

Might want to see if you can scare up a '65 Barracuda grill, '65 barracuda tail lights and spears... Maybe pass on the spears, but they are cool. Last pic here shows the spears on the rear quarter in front of the bumper.855648556385565

I would like to build a track car with this set up, a full cage, and 275/35-18s on all four corners...

Maybe a Jerico... and an engine like this with EFI: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Dodge-Ray-Evernham-NASCAR-847HP-R5-Late-Model-MOPAR-RACE-cup-Engine-Motor-/390583637730

Could be fun... just sayin'

I always liked the valiants.
I REALLY dig that 65 olds in the background, my favorite cutlass body style (besides the 69)

Where has the time gone! We're in final assembly but I'll try to catch up quickly over the next few days.

Here are some updates on the Valiant on the floor and the cage. Click here (http://bangshift.com/general-news/project-cars/project-violent-valiant-update-the-floor-comes-out-and-the-cage-starts-going-in/) for the full article on Bangshift.

The floors were really nice! It was a shame to cut them out of this California car.

Should be a pretty cool build on a car you don't see very often.

Thanks. Yeah, that is why I suggested the Valiant. Besides the fact that we already had the car, it is pretty much unloved by nearly everyone.

More pics on the front frame rails… BangShift article here: http://bangshift.com/bangshiftapex/project-violent-valiant-update-the-front-frame-rails-get-fabbed-and-installed/

The Valiant HAS to have one of the UGLIEST dashes in all of automotive history! So let's fix that...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2014/10/photo1685x513-1.jpg

We'll be using Stewart Warner gauges…

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2014/10/dash4685x513-1.jpg

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2014/10/dash2685x513-1.jpg

If you followed the Raybestos GTO build, then you'll recognize this speedo that we bought for the Violent Valiant. Maybe the last NOS Stewart Warner reverse sweep speedo in the country? Took 2 weeks of searching to find one! What a shame that SW discontinued it. They told us that after the GTO was done, the sales of this speedo went through the roof.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2014/10/sw_speedo_2-1.jpg

Much better!

Column modified and mounted with a mock up steering wheel.
