My dad bought this car in 91. I got hit from him in 96 or so. He had stripped off most of the paint. He told me if I finished the car I could have it. I worked on it for several years in high school. We repainted it the original forest green. I rebuilt the 400 with vortec heads and a 700r4 was installed. The interior suspension and brakes were all redone as well. I won my high school car show too.

I drove the car for several years. I finally parked it in 06. I finally got around to working on it again in July. My friend an I got it running again drove it around for a while. Did a few burn outs then tore it apart.

I was going to just install the sc&c stage 2 plus kit with varishocks and kore3 c6 z51 brakes and start driving it. They are on the shelf waiting now. But that snow balled. I'm going to box and powder coat the frame. Coat the under carriage with u pol raptor.

Found some rust on the pass cowl from leaves collecting while parked. Started to replace the inner structure. The outer cowl will be here this weekend. I pressure washed the under side and it came out very well. Just a few spots of surface rust to deal with.Hopefully my daughter won't be driving when this car gets finished.

I love the 70-73 Monte Carlos such a bloody bonny of a car, are ye really planning to drive it that hard to require boxing the frame? I guess if it doesn't take long it doesn't matter.

Fair play to you
Cheers,

I plan on racing it some. Mostly a street cruiser. But if I'm going to take it to powder coat why not. These stock frames are really flexy. The main reason I'm thinking of boxing is that the seam where the roof meets the quarter panel cracked thru the pain on both sides.

Figured I'd look up your build since you're local to me. Nice Monte. Always liked the early ones. They've got engine room for days. Looks like you're off to a great start. What's your plan for engine, staying with the 400?

You said a little racing, planning on Autocross? We need to have more A bodies out there. That's what I'm looking to do with the Chevelle when it's finished, maybe a few OUSCA events. We're less then a day's drive from several tracks where the events are held.

Mike I plan on auto crossing and maybe some track days. Probably keep the 406 for now. It's decent and has AFR aluminum heads. I have a 6.0 long block that might end up in it eventually with some forced induction. There is plenty of room in front of the motor on the Monte. I'll add some new pics soon too.
