I built this truck in 8 months out of my burnt up 1992 c1500. These pictures were taken by Truckin' Magazine during there Throwdown competition. It's a 1997 Chev C1500 lowered with DJM tubular front control arms, lower control arms are 3" drop, 2" drop spindles, and 1" drop springs with dual adjustable QA1 shocks. The rear is a 8.5" 10 bolt from a 96' impala ss with a customized ridetech triangulated 4 link, custom made c-notches, and QA1 dual adjuastable proma-star coil overs, belltech sway bars front and rear, 4 wheel disc brakes. 331 LM7 ported/milled heads, 228/228 voodoo cam, ls6 valve train, edelbrock pro flo xt intake/throttle body, shoenfeld long tube headers, built th350 with manual valve body. Now for the pics!

Pretty nice truck. How do you like the manual valve body, and how well does it work? Im still on the fence on if I would want that, my s10 will get a pretty healthy mix of DD driving and autocross / track days.

I love the manual valve body. I can hold it in any gear and shift when I want. Every day driving is like driving a manual car but no clutch, shift up when you need to and shift down when you need/want to.

That is AWESOME.....Everything about it looks bad ass, and the drivetrain is killer.
Do you have a build thread?

Great job, lets see some more.

Nice build man. I was on ls1truck the other day and saw a thread about a truck on fire, must've been your thread.
Its unfortunate about your white OBS, that was a nice lookin ride. I think this one more than makes up for it though :)

That's pretty cool, most like the patina look.... The just caught on fire might take on too!! Lol..

TheJakeLSX
11-10-2013, 10:23 AM
Yeah this patina is a lot easier and faster to get but it's a lot more damaging! Lol. The rest of the burnt truck is so warped, even the frame rails are warped.

I got my engine painted up and detailed out, it's ready to go back in the truck as soon as I get it back from the body shop.

Very Cool! Great stance, good tire/wheel combo, and that mill looks great too. What color will the truck be? Sticking with red?

Snopro I was just lookin at your thread and that's gonna be so sick when you get it done. I wish I would have thought of doing what your doing. I love the rendering you've got. Thanks for the compliments you guys, I'm working on wiring tonight. Tryin to hide all the injector, coil, and throttle body wires under the intake instead of along the sides of the intake

TheJakeLSX
11-24-2013, 04:04 PM
Click on the link to my build thread on ls1truck.com. It's from my old truck that burnt to the ground last year.

bovey
11-26-2013, 05:47 AM
Like you I was into hiding wires. However, I found the more I raced it - the better it was to know and sometimes see the wires. I'm all for a clean purpose built truck. Just be mindful of what you hide and what you might need to get at during race days. Again, love your truck

Snopro - as TheJakeLSX will agree - the LS upgrade is amazing. I run a LSX427 with a t56 and I'd suggest looking at gear cuts and gear coatings as they could shift better. Rob from No Limit talks about this in some of his posts.

TheJakeLSX
11-26-2013, 07:20 AM
Yeah bovey I see what your saying about the wiring. I was actually able to run the wires under the intake and they all reached I didn't have to change anything. Ill post a picture tonight.

Snopro- like bovey said lsx is the way to go. I'll never power my truck with anything else. You could buy a 6.0 truck motor and bolt a set of factory 243 or 799 heads on it and put a good cam and tune in it and you'd have a great motor to power your truck.

snopro
11-26-2013, 05:58 PM
Yeah thanks boys I have a line on a couple LS blocks so ill see what happens over the winter, The engine I have for it now should be a great motor for autocross and tight road tracks but will lack in streetability. The tranny im going to be running is a C&R racing T10 with straight cut gears and magnesium tail stock. its a rebuilt nascar road race tranny but once again good for the track but will be noisy and rough for the road. I appreciate all the great info though guys thanks

Chris

bovey
11-26-2013, 07:33 PM
Sounds fun. Noisey and rough are in the ears and butt of the beholder. Stab'em in and see how it feels, then you have a very good idea of what you want when you change. Personally, I find the t56 too quiet - however it does make it very stealthy. For the type of build you are doing and engine/tranny swap is low of the difficult scale.

Started working on the truck again since it's that time of year for winter projects. Made some templates and mocked up a front splitter that I'm going to build. I'm also going to use the fog light holes in the front bumper to plumb brake coolers, and the billet grille in the bumper is where I'm going to build an air box and run the intake to it. I've got to cut the inside of my front fenders out and pull them out an inch and re support them, that way my tires won't rub so bad anymore. What do you guys think of the splitter? And any advice on what to make it out of?

I've got the inner parts of the fenders removed. I've got one fender cut with a 3/16" piece of round bar welded in. Much more room then I had. Hopefully there won't be any more rubbing problems. I'll also pull the fenders a half inch.

Hey RBEAST thanks for the interest. I've been so busy that I haven't been on here lately. I do have updates but I got a new phone with no photos on it. I'll try to post some pictures tonight. I had planned on bringing the truck to good guys nationals Des Moines over the 4th of July but I broke the truck drag racing a week early. Had a plastic power steering pulley grenade at 6000 rpm and did a lot of damage to the hood fenders water pump and radiator.

Your truck looks amazing.

Were you able to repair the damage from the pulley?

Thanks Tig. Mechanically I got it fixed and ready to go again for this weekend. Cosmetically its not fixed. Smoothed out the dents and through some stickers over the blown off paint for now, looks dumb but its keeping the paint from chipping any further for now. Ill fix the paint work after this weekend.

Nice little cover up, it looks good
Random enough but not outta place.

Your dads truck is pretty bad ass to.

Oh and how did you get the design on your tires? I just noticed that, looks sweet.

What wheels and tires are you running? Back spacing and stuff too if you don't mind.

The wheels and tires are 19x9" TSW. Not sure on offset or model I bought them used. I used tire ink from summit racing to do the white letters and checkers. The road coarse went awesome last weekend. The truck handled amazing, better then on an autocross track. All was well up until Saturday mid morning when the old 5.3 exploded! Blew a hole in the oil pan. Last night I pulled the right head off and pistons 2,4,6 hit the intake valves, rods 4 and 6 are broke. Time to upgrade!

You can see this piston spun almost 180*

Not sure what caused it but I killed it pretty good. New plans are to build an aluminum motor, most likely an ls1, make 500 wheel horse or close, dry sump, built 4L70e that ive got sitting in my garage along with the TCI paddle shift kit.

Let me start out by saying I love the direction of your build. Sorry to see about the engine. What rpm were you running when it let go?

Thanks Steve-O-08. It let go at 6600 rpm. Its always had a little bit of a harmonic imbalance to the motor and I think that along with the high rpm is what killed it.

Oh ok. Sounds like that could have done it. The nee set up sounds like it'll be pretty cool. I like the idea of an all aluminum dry sump. And the paddle shifted 4L70e will be cool too. Might go full-manual with my 80e.
