tsktsktsk, welding or grinding and no safety goggles, I can over look the lack of gloves (barely), but the lack of eye protection, shame on you!! :)

Really nice, lots of work and I can't believe that drivers side floor, oh my gosh!!

Captain7787
10-23-2013, 01:46 PM
Haha! that is actually out of the norm for me. Im all about eye protection!! Thanks Ill be posting my hood when I get the pics uploaded. I had to raise it about an inch ( I guess the supercharger wasn't an option in 67)

Great looking car. I like the hood mod. I've always wanted to do something similar.

Hammered
10-24-2013, 03:32 PM
I agree on the hood mod - that looks far better than any of the aftermarket raised hoods.

Captain7787
10-24-2013, 03:58 PM
Ya the cowl hood on the firebird looks like 3 blind people designed it. It doesn't follow the lines at all.

Captain7787

Got the hood cleared

What did you do to get the rear bumper like that, you suck by the way since your Firebird is WAAAYYY ahead of mine, seriously it looks amazing. I really like the flush fit rear bumper, how did you go about it?

Captain7787
10-25-2013, 08:13 PM
Took the bumper and cut it down to fit flush and welded it to the car.( it was a lot easier said than done) It was purely to stiffen the car up for road course, looks had nothing to do with it... Just kidding lol I'm about 2 years and 3 months in. Only wiring and interior to go!

This is one of the coolist first gen birds I have ever seen!! Really like what you did with the hood. Check out what a 68 looks like with the rear quarters puhed out 3 inches, and minitubbed 2 3/4 inches. I now have 16 inches of rear wheel tub, 18 to the wheel arch lip.84686

Man, There is just nothing better than a laser straight black car. Makes me want to paint my falcon black. But having had done body work on a black car before, I'm not sure I want to subject my self to that punishment again, lol!

Nice Bird...I am working on 68 now and have questions on the hood.

Did you effectively just raise the centerline?

How did you retain the shape of the scoop?

There is a fiberglass hood that is called a Super 400 Hood that provides 1.5 inches of extra clearance.
http://www.spottsperformance.com/body.htm

Spotts no longer sells them but they can be purchased through Hansberryinc.

Nice job for sure.

Captain7787
12-01-2013, 05:52 PM
We just basically cut the center out and raised it where it was level with the top of the snorkels. Tried to get the metalwork as close as possible so there would be no shrinking on the main focal point of the car. I think it turned out nice

Captain7787

Captain7787

Looking great! What's the plan, glass the console and panels then paint them or cover them to match the seats?

Captain7787
03-21-2014, 11:40 AM
We are going to cover it with alum foil, glass it then pop the pink foam out. They will be vinyl wrapped and part of them will be painted black to match. On the door panels the pink will be vinyl and the wood that you see will be painted. Then it will have leds in different places for interior lighting.

Wow!

Nice fab work. Amazing build.

Firebird-Geek
03-26-2014, 01:50 PM
Awesome work! THANKS for sharing the fab of the interior... there is very little info on these threads about designing interior panels and consoles. Cool to see how it goes from foam insulation into it's finished product! Especially for us that have ZERO interior experience!:)

Awesome bird! Love the subtle changes!

Captain7787
03-26-2014, 05:04 PM
If you will look on the front you will see a little loop under the bumper. Connected a coated steel wire to the hood release. When it's not used you can tuck it up under the bumper and you can't see it.

Captain7787

Sanding fiberglass to get ready to paint. Hoping to have interior finished by the end of the weeks then I just have to wire and plumb the fuel lines and it's done. It's been a long road and it's finally almost over!

Captain7787

08-06-2014, 01:24 PM
that black is amazing, what color code? how many coats of base and clear did you use?

Captain7787
08-06-2014, 06:06 PM
It's single stage ;)

Captain7787
08-06-2014, 06:07 PM
Yes it was airbrushed carbon fiber and then pinstriped. Seat covers still need to be stretched, that's just a first fit

Protouringstang73
08-06-2014, 11:25 PM
Look awesome and expensive :D

Cop Magnet
08-07-2014, 05:44 AM
Can you elaborate more on how you made the console? That looks like fiberglas insulation you built up, then you reference glassing it over and "airbrushing" the carbon fiber on, then obviously its been pinstriped an cleared. I'm just a little confused and more than a little impressed, so I need some details! :D

Captain7787
08-07-2014, 09:01 AM
100975100976100977100978100979
We made the shape out of styrofoam insulation, then covered it in glass, then sanded everything smooth and popped the insulation out to run wiring under it later, then shot base black, airbrushed the carbon fiber on and laid a pinstripe, then cleared it and wet sanded and buffed

Cop Magnet
08-07-2014, 06:05 PM
Thanks! What do you mean airbrush carbon fibre on?

Captain7787
08-07-2014, 07:06 PM
You basically use a stencil and then shadow to give it depth. Sounds easy when you put it like that haha

Also a fan of the hood. Was thinking of something similar with a base hood.

It is a ls2 with ls9 heads, heads are worked a little with springs and valves, custom ground boost cam, kenne bell3.6 liter mammoth supercharger paired with a t56 magnum, McLeod clutch and it makes 630 hp at the wheels, 640 tq and is a blast to drive. When I get a chance I'm going to put it on e85 and redyno it. Hoping for 700

I'm not sure, it came with the subframe. Used hooker headers into 3". Flow master mufflers with electric cutouts. The headers fit amazing I would strongly recommend them
