Well That is the reallity here in SWEDEN! We here for example Jay Leno complaining on the escalading gasprice in the USA. Try paying $6.30 per Gallon! We pay over 70% in taxes on regular pump gas! and we have a income tax of 33%. If anyone in the states are in need of employing someone with computer skills, mechanical skills, pretty good english skills and a quick learner från Sweden, let me know. I don't want to live here for much longer!

medical care...well it is suposed to be $20 each time you go to the doctor, exept dentist or like for cosmetic stuff etc. but we do get what we pay for, it's not as bad as the US public health care system, but not far. and here it is considered wrong to pay for better care and shorter waiting periods to se a private doctor. and if you make over $50k per year, then for every dollar you make over that amount, 55cents (55%) goes to the gov. and EVERYONE here in Sweden thinks that the healthcare here sux. but we are lame people here evidently. nothing changes everythings stays the same!

Sweden is nowhere near Denmark, here gas is 7,09. We have income tax from around 45% and up, income tax, basicly tax on everything. In fact we are often discussion how Sweden can affort it all since EVERYTHING is cheaper there.... But we do have free healthcare and education and I'm very glad to live here ! By the way cars don't even cost half as much in Sweden as they do in Denmark...

Stop whining I live in Norway. Sweden and Denmark is heaven.
We have even higher gas prices. Atleast in Sweden you can afford the car you want.Corvette,Tahoe and Avalanche all have about the same price in Norway wich is $190000. Denmark has same prices on cars that we do i know that. Not sure why.. Since meat and alcohol is given away for free ;) well almost...
Tax is from 30-40 % here on average. I think taxes is working almost identical to Swedens.
Medical care we pay $30 to see a doctor, dont need insurance and all that.I have had 2 operations since 2002 both costed my nothing.(exept the painful recovery).
One good thing we have is 5 weeks vacation.

Try paying about $3.75usd/gall ($1.20Cdn/L) when your country pumps out over 3mill barrels of oil per day and has 180billion barrels of proven oil reserves. 7th largest oil producer and we are still paying more the the states who has to import most of their oil. My govt needs to wake up.

What other wealth does your country grenerate if its like the uk who have now no north sea oil nearly gone, no coal, gas imported, back to the middle ages, tax the people to pay for the government, as the country itself makes nothing as we have no manufacturing industry to speak of.

Well, In Canada we actually have a pretty solid economy as much as we bitch about it. The only real problem with it is that a lot of our income is from selling raw materials. We would be far better off processing the stuff, then selling them as a finished product. More jobs, more money etc. Min wage in BC is about $8.50 I think, tradesmen make $20-30/hr before taxes (the killer). I think the average income after tax for a single person is $25,000/yr. That includes everyone though. Average takehome pay for a tradesman is around $30,000 I think.
As a friend of mine (was raised in Liverpool) says "the UK is poor, they just dont know it yet." I hope he is wrong though, Id like to do a beer tour of the UK some year and dont want it to be a slum ;) .
Cheers.

I think it's hard to compare wages between the different countries, since everything is different (taxes, houses, food etc.) But I do know that Norway is very expensive to be in (a least at a tourist) But the wages should also be pretty high (right paddington ?) afterall Norway is one of the richess countries in the world compared to population. But maybe we all shouldn't be complaining that much, we can all afford houses, food, cars and we all have access to healthcare and education (att least most of us). That's more than most people in the world!!

David, try $400,- a month health insurance ( me, my wife and 2 kids)
I guess you don't have a high income then :slap:
(in the Netherlands you get a "private" health insurance when you earn above a certain amount a year)
blue collar is about $450 a wk,40hr wk (BEFORE tax)
white collar about $750, 40hr wk. (BEFORE tax, approx 42% on this level)
Still not complaining... I have a job, house, can feed my family and still have the Camaro :drive1:
There's allways someone who has it worse or better....comparing can be fun, but it can make you loose sight on what you CAN do too!!

I guess if I would work as an electrician again I would make around $46000.
My sister lives in the US and she says wages are higher there then in Norway. Last year i looked at wages in the IT business and i noticed that all IT wages was higher in the US then in Norway.( just took an IT education thats why). Then again we have a lot more vacation then you guys do.
An engineer(elektro) freind of mine makes around $92000 a year though which i think is pretty good .

Man hearing all this you couldnt get me to move from Iowa for ANYTHING, im in Waterloo a town of 70,000. Its fairly quiet, Ive got 2 drag strips around, 1 is 10 miles away and the other is 50 miles east. Chicago, and St Paul arent too far. Gas is cheap compared to the rest of the country. Its at $2.89 right now. Im an apprentice electrician, once i get my journeyman card ill start in the low $30 K range and top around $40 K after a few years. I get ALL my insurance paid for {John Deere select health} Delta Dental, AFLAC for 5 bucks a week, disability, and 2 weeks paid vacation. Housing is fairly in- expensive, where you can still get into a decent place under $100,000 and we have no smog laws because our air is CLEAN!!!!! Oh dont let me forget about our water, man, it may has well come out of an "ice mountain" bottle..... Iowa is the best place on planet earth. Im fortunate

I think he means do "roofing", contruction and repair. Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama all all going to be HOOOOOOOT spots of opportunity once the death, sickness, and misery are gone. MANY YEARS of work to be done tearing down and rebuilding the region.
God bless those less fortunate and my donations are in the mail.

I was meaning do you want to roof? You said anyone looking to hire so you can come here! Not quite computer programming tho! :dunno:
I prolly won't go down south for all the rebuilding of everything, just stay here in SW Missouri. I am not much on "storm chasing" and ripping the insurance companies and others when they are down. But I am sure that there will be PLEANTY of work down there starting in about 6 months!
