Pretty much what the title says I've been looking to upgrade my rear brakes but don't want to drop over a grand for Baer brakes and wanted to know if the disk brakes off a 4th gen or 3rd gen would fit my 8.5 10 bolt on my 71 maro? Thanks!

Also can I make the front brakes work as well?

Based on this website

http://www.flynbye.com/catalog/c4_p1.html

I'd say the odds are pretty good you could make them work.

yes they will. I have that setup on my 69. I have a 8.5 10bolt rear end

I'd look at kore3 before that site listed above. Tobin is dedicated to his craft.

Thanks guys! Also I hear people saying that in order to make it work in the rear you need two passenger side calipers? Is this true

Also I'm guessing third gen camaro brakes would fit then just want to check since 4th gens around me aren't as plentiful as 3rd or early 4th gens since I'm in so cal and all of them get bought for ls1 donor cars

most 3rd gen brakes are junk.

oh, and do more homework. due to the shocks you can't use a set out of one car, you need 2 left sides (IIRC left not right). you'll also need a new prop valve and master cylinder and have to make the ebrake work. none of which are deal breakers but you can introduce some budget creep

Okay yea I knew it was two of one side just don't recall which side lol because as you said the shocks won't clear and I was planing on getting a new master cylinder and ways so I shouldn't be a problem I just want a nice brake setup I don't autocross or race the thing just want to be able to stop the car lol

Sadly, I have to agree with this sentiment after buying a set from him a few years ago. Flynbye used to be a great resource with excellent customer service. But not so good lately. It still is if you can wait for long periods of time and wonder why emails and phone calls don't get returned for weeks at a time. But it is a decent resource to look at the website and see if its possible.

I have my brakes correctly clocked (caliper facing the front). I got a kit from brp. It locates the emergency brake cables properly also. The kit relocates the shocks also. Tobin does know his stuff and I ve bought stuff from him, but the 4th gen stuff works really well for the $$$. the rears are the same as c5/c6 vette stuff iirc.

Okay so I'll get the brakes off a 4th gen and look into that kit to make the swap easier thank you!

Yep, get them off of a 98-02 with an LS1. The rear should bolt right up; I did this on my 72 Nova with an 8.5, just find someone selling a rear end. I see them in my area going for between $100- $250.

Yes they should but as far as I understand I need to get to driver side rear brake assemblies since the shocks on the camaro won't clear

Sorry to bring up an old thread but I am considering the LS1 brakes for my car now that I have my rear end apart.

What is the correct orientation for my emergency brake to work? What's up with the two left/two passenger caliper thing? I understand that this can be manipulated by picking up certain brakes. This is kind of important for my manual transmission car.

if you get the correct kit you don't have to have a goofy setup. the BRP kit puts the calipers where they are supposed to go. my ebrake cables come in from the back.

yes some may hate on them, but this works. have had on my car for 10years

I actually just ordered a complete set of LS1 rear brakes (minus pads/rotors) from ebay yesterday. I looked at the link you sent but the LS1 brake kit instruction manual from BRP does not show that it includes anything to relocate the shock absorber nor does it mention anything about the emergency brake cable. Earlier in this thread you mentioned that they include this but I just called and confirmed with them that they don't supply anything for this. Their instruction manual does state that you need two Left brackets/calipers in order to keep the staggered shock absorber arrangement.

I don't see a kit from brp. all I see is a set of spacers. What am I missing?

That's about all that's needed to bolt the 98-02 LS1 F-body rear discs to an early 10/12-bolt c-clip passenger car differential, a couple of spacers. Things get a bit more involved when you have to stagger the installation like on an F or X-body with staggered shocks and you need two driver's side assemblies, but the concept is the same.

I actually just picked up a second set of 4th Gen brakes off my local Craigslist today after finding out about this deal. I'm doing the install on my '79 Trans Am.

Do you at Kore3 recommend or have anything for the emergency brake setup?

I see you're referring to the 1st gen '67-'69 but BRP doesn't offer a shock for the 2nd gen '70-'81 like this thread originally referred to. Your car looks nice on the underside hifi!

I just got my 2nd set of 4th gen brakes today. I will soon be attempting the L/L setup so I don't have to relocate the shock absorber on my '79 Trans Am. Between the two sets, I got the emergency cables, backing plates, calipers, rotors, pads, etc. Hopefully I can get it to work right post some pics soon.

Here's what I'm working with...

This is probably a dumb question, but does anybody know if the 98-02 F body brakes will work on a 8.5 10 bolt that is using C-clip eliminators?

The backing plates won't with c clip eliminators. You will need to build your own mount or find another style brake. I verified while picking up parts to rebuild my rear end at the Strange Engineering building a few weeks ago.
