Its time to change the Magnaflows! Help

Hi all,

I have a 65 442 with a 468 Olds Aluminum head big block, I am running the Magnaflow 2.5 inch Cat back system. I like the quality but in all honesty it sounds like a cross between a Japanese Street bike and a diesel truck. I do not like it at all! I am thinking about switching to Spintech Sportsman 3000 XL, Or Borla. I do not like the flowmaster drone at all, the Car is fully covered in Dynamat, and I will run full exhaust out the back, It is not a race car, its more for cruising... What are your thoughts?

I've had the following exhaust systems on my car...

Magnaflow header back with X-pipe and Magnaflow mufflers (way too raspy)
Magnaflow header back with X-pipe but swapped to Flowmaster knock offs. (too loud, but less raspy)
Hand made H-pipe with Flowmaster knock offs (still too loud, but even less raspy)
H-pipe with Hooker Aerochambers (now we are starting to sound good! but still a bit loud)
H-pipe with Dynomax VT's (nice at idle but over 2,500 RPM it was raspy and sounded terrible)
put Aerochambers back on, have Flowmaster bullet style catalytic converters to install, should help mellow it out a bit, and help get rid of minor exhaust stink.

I did have Spintech's on my 05 GTO, and holy cow... BEST sounding exhaust on a stock car I ever heard. Engine and exhaust on that car were bone stock, except for the Spintech's welded into factory location, still had "center" muffler and convertors on it.

I like to be different (hey we drive Oldsmobile's!), I say try the Spintech's but check out the Hooker Aerochambers as well. Just keep in mind they are a little on the heavy side, if that matters to you.

I just sold a Magnaflow system that came with a car I bought for the engine and transmission; it sounded cool when you got on it, and I'm sure it sounded impressive to many, but I hate loud exhaust. I'm an old man when it comes to the mufflers and noise; that said, I've had Flowmasters, all kinds of different loud pipes on motorcycles, and even stingers on VW Bugs way back when. I prefer to hear the engine, if anything, so I just go with cheap no-name mufflers (there is a name, maybe Dynomax or something), just the basic kind of mufflers you can buy at Autozone, for most popular pipe sizes. They're not so quiet that you can't tell there's a V8 feeding it, but most of the time, you only hear the pipes under acceleration. Companies make a lot of money suggesting that performance is gained from exhaust noise, and when things are so loud that you can't see straight enough to read your tach, who's to argue? The car's performance and character can speak visually, rather than audibly...
