Tearing down and restoring a 67 camaro rs ragtop which has drums. I plan to convert all to disc but how far should I go? This will be a 99% street car but I want to definitely improve the cars abilities from the stock setup.

Fronts; Get a 11" size kit with power booster or go with a bigger brake setup 12" or 13"? I do plan on running 17" maybe 18" wheels. Big brake kits with drill & slots look nice but for my needs is it just overdone?

Rears; I am strongly considering getting an Explorer 8.8 rear end which already has disc brakes. Of course they would be standard disc and also Ford calipers.

I know I can go many directions with this but don't want to go overboard at the beginning of my restore.

For basic cruising and normal street use, the stock 11"x1" rotors and D52 calipers do just fine, especially considering what they cost. If you intend to get a little more aggro with it on the street, auto-x, occasional road course event, then you'll want more brake IMHO. How much more will depend on a lot of little variables and your personal priorities, but definitely more. Since it's a convertible, it'll never be an all-out track car, but that doesn't mean you can't near that level of braking performance if you want to, it just depends on where you want to spend your money. The Explorer rear discs to a pretty good job paired up with a variety of aftermarket front kits, there are lots of guys running them on their budget Ford 9" builds, 8.8's, etc. Good bang for the buck and you probably won't miss having vented rotors unless you venture out onto a road course.
