Car Repair Shop - crash and burn with customer's car

Mercedes AMG SL55 was at a local shop here in Cypress, TX awaiting some performance mods when an employee of the shop took the car out for a joy ride - wrecked the car and it went up in flames. I stopped using the shop a while back for much more minor reasons. Glad it wasn't mine, as I would be beyond pissed off. I haven't seen this in the news, but the owner, whom I know casually, is posting the story on FaceBook.

why would he post (aka: advertise) that??

there was a story on the mp3car forums years ago where a guy installed a car computer in his wrx (i think). he later dropped it off at the dealer for some unrelated warranty work. One feature that the car computers have is the ability to datalog your cars speed and gps position. When get got the car back he decided to check it out, out of curiosity. He soon realized that the tech was taking it on 80mph+ speed runs on the back roads around the dealership.

Quite normal really. Its a gigantic **** move to do that to a customers car, but to trade ins, certified used, and brand new cars it happened all the time. Ive worked at a few places that techs crashed customer cars while joyriding. At my current job I cant be any harder on the cars than the customer is, so thats kind of a relief.

James its not joy riding if its part of your job to test drive a car.
