Hey guys, I just bought another car yesterday, a 1987 Buick Regal we4, and the carburetor has a problem with keeping the car to stay alive. Its a holley 770 street avenger carburetor with am electric choke, when I bought it, it died at all the lights coming home. When you stop the rpm's are at about 800 then slowly decrease to none. I want to put a new carb on that will start up turnkey and will be reliable. Would you guts recommend the ever so popular edelbrock carb or what do you recommend for a good reliable street carburetor? Thanks in advance
the 770 Holley is a great carb, sounds like it needs to be taken apart cleaned and the readjusted, I would look on holleys website for rebuild instructions

I agree with it probably just needs to be cleaned, pretty easy job to do. My Holley 600 will do this on my truck, but it sits more than it runs. Running some cleaner in the fuel tank has helped out, but occasionally I have to clean out the carb. Also, make sure you have a good fuel filter before the carb.

Turns out the idle and start problem wasn't the carburetor at all! It was a bad fuse for the fuel pump. I redid the wiring and fixed problem! All in all a $30 job instead of buying a new $400 carburetor. Thanks guys

I was taught in Auto shop to always check the ignition & electrical systems before doing any carb repairs or adjustments. The electrical systems are more easily tested & once you are assured it's working OK, you have narrowed it down to the fuel system. I don't follow this every time, but it's good advice.

Or a $30 holley rebuild kit. Your the guy I like buying parts from. No idea how to fix, so buy new!
