Can I use a 9" nascar center section on the street? 31 splines locker and gears?

Sure. You just want to make sure it is a "regular" dual direction locker. Detroit lockers offers a "CTR" unit for Circle Track Racing and they only unlock one side when you're turning left.
It's not a gimme that this is a CTR. Check & see.

I purchased one of my center sections from Roush Racing off their ebay store. The only problem as Ron stated is that the locker was VERY harsh and I ultimately had to replace the carrier for street driving.

Hi Steve !
Do you feel it was harsh, because you don't like the clunking & ratcheting Detroit lockers make in general ... or do you think this specific locker was more harsh than average?
I ask, because all the NASCAR teams run locker springs for the application. High Speed ovals get stiffer springs & short tracks get softer springs. I "think" the factory springs are 87#. We run 57# for short tracks & I see 115# for super speedways.
Any idea what springs are in the locker you got?

I have no idea what springs were in my locker. I know the locker was VERY harsh, VERY loud and made the car VERY hard to steer around corners while decelerating. In short, the car handling was very unpredictable with the locker. I ditched the locker for a Trac-Loc and have been much happier with the way the car drives. I may switch to a WaveTrac if I find the Trac-Loc to be ineffective.

Thanks for the feedback. From what you said, it's clear it had very stiff springs in it, which makes it harder for the locker to "unlock".
Of course, they are always noisy. And if backing & turning, they are "clunky" as they ratchet.
But with softer springs in the 57# to 67# range, they disengage easier when turning & work very well for street, AutoX & road courses.
