Hey forum,

You guys are all about making your car the best it can be using modern technology. Mechanically there has been a ton of innovation but electronically and creature comforts seem to be a bit stale and not a lot of options. I've been reading the threads for the past couple weeks and I've been thinking about making a controller that can handle many of the modified accessories that are commonly put into pro-touring cars and hot rods.

The main objective will be to have a centralized ergonomic design with safety in mind. you will not have to take your eyes off the road and you wont have to have a bunch of buttons to press/ controls to install.

I've outlined an expandable design that will give you a 'central command' for things like power windows, ac (would use an algorithm to maintain a specified temp like in modern cars), ipod/phone control (no need to add a stereo), etc... It will have 3 stages.
1) a simple knob and stealth screen that will be invisible when off. This will be the central brain of the product line.
2) From there you'd be able to hook up a monitor and have a more visual/flashy interface if desired.
3) Even a feature i've been researching would be a hand gesture feature. Adding to the 'eyes on the road' theme. For instance; say you wanted to lock your doors. you could put your hand over the center console in a piece sign and flick it down (or up to unlock). if you want to turn the heat up... then you could just move your hand to the right. Want to turn the volume down on your ipod? just twist your wrist like you're twisting an invisible dial... skip a track. point and swipe right. (there would be a lot of error correction involved as to avoid false readings as much as possible..) of course this would be the most challenging thing to implement; but the technology is finally out there and not at an insane price.

What i'd like to know from you guys is what features would you in a system like this? What else would you see a benefit to incorporate?
