Hello Everyone,
I am looking for some input in regards to a hydraboost unit, i have a 67 camaro ls 2, i have the right stuff signature brake kit on all 4 corners. at this point i am looking to try and save a few bucks, is it feasible to use astro van/sierra 3/4 unit and retofit with an adapter plate or just spend the money on a unit such as hydratech, tallon etc?
i appreciate all the input not that im being cheap because nothing to do with this car has been cheap but i would say resourceful.
thanks in advance
Jeremy

My 83 el camino came factory with hydroboost, was a diesel. System works great, same unit as my old 1 ton stepvan, except mounted in normal booster location. Parts, rebuilt units are still available for mine. I have no regrets with system after 20 years use.

JeremyS,
I am in the process of building my own from an Astro van. It is significantly cheaper in parts, but by no means is it bolt in.
I'd be shocked if I have more than $300 in the setup.

Jeremy,
I meant to post more pics of my bracket, just hadn't had the chance... The bracket mounts up with zero modification to the firewall.
We rapid prototyped the part out of plastic first to verify fitment (I also did that to test a couple different angles for the block)
Here it is test fit on a 1st gen firewall

Looks great. Wilwood master bolt to astro hydo unit? And does anyone know if ls truck pump will work

Yes, the Wilwood master will work.
As far as the pump, you just have to plumb in your second return to the reservoir or switch to a remote reservoir. Here is the schematic. The second return can be done with a Tee or by installing a second fitting on the reservoir.

A second fitting on the reservoir is said to be better, but I,ve had no issues putting a tee in the return line under my f-body LS1 factory pump.
Nice diagram Nick. If anybody can't under stand that, they need to give up.

Nick, are you selling the bracket or the set ups or ??? I'm going to go hydra boost as well but I won't be ready until next year. Any contact info or website you can provide will be much appreciated.

My car is a 70 cuda, so yes its different but the hydroboost is from an astro van. I used and modified the plate off of the van in conjunction with the one off my car. Purchased a new m/c and was less than 150$ into everything. Not real familiar with camaro's but just try it, your only out like 30$ for the unit at picknpull. I know 30 can be alot if it doesn't work but you'll find a way if you want.82227

Here is a pic of my setup during install.
I am currently having feedback problems from my "tee" return fitting, so I'm swapping to a PS pump with 2 return lines.

Just wondering, is your tee pretty close to the reservoir to minimize the amount of single line?

Pete wicked ride bro. I was thinking just snagging a new reman as the last thing I want problems from is my brakes. But I may grab one from pic a part just see since they are going to charge a core fee. Does anyone know what to look for once you have the unit to be sure it is sound?
Thanks

I read and was also told that the T's are not the best, better to drill and tap. I guess getting all the air out of the system is a big issue?

Return is all about getting fluid back to reservoir without much pressure build up. Brake pedal can actually stick down if you have a severe restriction in hydro return. Some tee's themselves have such downsized passages they restrict flow.
Main thing an old hydroboost unit can do is externally leak. FYI, retired an 83 panel van a couple years ago, over 400k miles, original unit still ok. my 83 el camino (same part) started leaking approx. 6 years ago, less than 200k miles.
I'd just grab a used unit, my first reman was defective anyways.

I tee'd about 5" from the reservoir.

I used a late 70's Eldorado pump. It has two returns. I had to unbraze them and reposition but looks like it work work just fine. You can always use a piece of brake like and make your own extra return line. Just a thought.

I used one off a 98 Astro van on one of my past projects.
