Need some help here. I own a 1962 falcon that I want to use my wheels that are 16" x 7" with a 4" backspace on the rear. I am installing a 8.8 rear end out of a explorer with 9" end to eliminate the c-clips, this being said I need to narrow the unit already to fit under the car. Does anyone have an idea how narrow should I have this axle cut down too? To allow the wheels with the 4" backspace to fit.
Thank you

I tthink you are going to have to put the wheels under the car with the axle removed and measure wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface.

I can give you stock info to compare to. My '63 Sprint was lowered on air over leaf, the axle had a 3" drop via a 2x3 tube as you see.. and I found the biggest wheel was 17x7, w/ 4.75" b/s. I may have added a spacer so could have been 4.5" b/s due to that. But that was as far outboard it would go, any more was the fender. The axle was stock and I believe but verify please.. it is 56.5" across mounting surfaces.
