Hey guys, I have put my elky on hold hold for a bit, and my son and I are building a 48 chevy pick up for him. This is not going to be show car build but a driver for starters. We got the truck yesterday and and I would like to knoe your reccomendations for which independant front suspensions(insert budget build) you recommend and why. I am not set on any one manufacturer yet which is why I am asking. There are many brands and options. Safely driving through the local terrain is my first goal next decent handling. My son is 13 so we have a couplle of years to get it together. I would just like some input from those with experience with this platform.

Thanks guys,

Chris

Herb,

Thanks for that, I had not seen No limits set up before. The fact that it is coil over based at that price is a huge plus.

We've got a couple options for the 47-54 Chevs. We have a system based on a MII spindle and another one based on our Custom spindle(which is more performance driven).

We only use heavy duty Moog upper & lower ball joints.
We manufacture using USA made DOM steel 1" O/D Upper control arms & 1.125" Lower control arms.
The spindles are also machined in house using 4140 chro-moly pins and locally cast cores
The lower crossmember is made out of 3/16 American steel.
The lower control arm pins are one piece making them stronger and easier to get the lower control arm in place.
Our upper control arm attachment point on the MII based kit is vertical now so no more worrying about the t-bolts sliding around and messing up your alignment/paint

These kits both come standard with large bore calipers & 10.5" or 11" rotors
We only use the new Energy Suspension bushings with reliefs so bushing noise is a thing of the past.
We've also decreased bump steer, increased anti-dive and improved camber gain on the MII based kit. It is the best bang for buck system we offer and can still knock down some pretty impressive track #'s. We've run 48.5 mph in the slalom with a MII and drag race 4-Link equipped Nova on 245 & 275 tires. Yet, you can still cruise the family around in comfort.

We also offer a 1" Anti-Sway bar standard with either one of these kits.

Thanks for the Ideas so far, Hope some more will chime in, nothing has been rulled in or out as of yet. I am letting my son help in the choices, he is 13 and trying to learn all about it also. BTW, we both love the look and stance of that black pickup. HMMMMM ideas.......

Please keep the info coming if you have used someones product and list likes and dislikes, I am open to it all. We are leaning toward coil overs so in the future if he wants to autocross it for fun there is some future adjustability there already, but that will be on his dime. LOL

Thanks, Chris

I am under the impression you can put a S10 standard cab longbed frame under that truck. Allows you to use all the S10 kits and easy v8 swap. I saw there was a company making pre-made brackets for body mounts. Should not be too hard to find an S10 with suspension done and a v8 already to use as donor.
Well it got me thinking anyway of a cool, cheap project for my Daughter. Thought I would share.

Mayhem, I have looked into that, just not exactly the route my son and I want to go. I am wanting to go coil over's so when he decides down the road to redo the truck it will be one less thing he will have to change. He has already begun speaking for parts coming off my 67 Elky. I am afraid if I am not careful he might just talk me out of my 383. We have a while before I have to purchase suspension, I am researching what out there and the alternatives like you suggest. In the end I am letting him make certain choices after explaining the options available and breaking down the cost benefit analysis helps him also since strangely he goes out of his way not to spend my money. This is our project, but his reward.

Thanks,
Chris
