We are building a MGB Speedster which has had the unibody removed. We have custom bent frame rails by Chris Alston and the car will feature a LS Motor w/ T-56. We are running a Corvette C4 Front Suspension and Featuring a Flaming River Power Rack and Column.
Let us know what you think about our project. It should be fun on the roads with 400HP and a 2300LB car. Cant wait to drive it. We are running full size C5 Corvette wheels sizes. 19x8.5 Front and 20x10 Rear
We have plenty of build photos which we will add to this thread if there is an interest. All comments are appreciated and we look forward to seeing you all at the shows once completed.

Sounds like a sweet build i have been eyeing a few MGBs to do a similar build with, Definitely going to be watching this one!

I WANT TO SEE MORE.
Is that clear enough? I think this is very cool and I love unusual builds. Bring it on!!!

This looks like a cool project and I would love to see the build progress.
A criticism I see; the front airdam, to me, needs to have the lower part of it tilted towards the rear of the car. I think it would slim up the front end making the car look sleeker

Makoshark,
I agree the rendering was done just as a baseline for the car. The actual front airdam has all of the things you mentioned and with the overall height of the car and flared fenders in front (not represented in the rendering ) I think you'll like what we have planned.

Sorry my pics are not in any set order. This is just a pic from the car when moved into the fab room

Forgive my messy fab table. These next pics are of the front shock mounts.

The remaining pics are of the Flaming Rive Universal Power Rack Install and there Tilt Column.
I have also thrown in some pics of the firewall build up. There was a perimeter frame built which will support the Tilton Pedal Assembly and Resevoirs for the fluids
The car runs a reversed LS intake which will draw fresh air from the factory air inlet vent by the windshield.
There will be firewall supports ( similar to what a Chevy Nova has ) going from the front of the frame rails to the firewall then from the backside of the firewall to the dash bar which is all 1.75 x .120 DOM
There are more pics of the tube work which I will upload soon
We are running a highly modified Jaguar IRS from a XJS V12 which is unique because I get the advantages of the IRS but I am able to run outboard brakes.

Kinda dig it. Almost reminiscent of an SCCA F-Production car. I might be inclined to make that windscreen removable to enhance that.

The windshield is a minimal frame recessed into the cowl to appear frameless. It is a upcoming SEMA build and will be setup in a pro touring / smoothed out hot rod styling. Similar to previous builds we have done. Similar to the SCCA style we have the car 4 inches wider than stock and will have blended fender flairs both front and rear. Not to mention custom front and rear valances since the bumpers have been deleted

I've always wanted to do something like this - or maybe use a Triumph Spitfire for the donor.
I like it!

I think it's awesome. I had a 73 Fiat Spyder in HS, and a buddy had a MG. We always had a blast running around with those cars. I had always wanted to do a Buick turbo motor in the Fiat, just for S&Gs, but never got around to it.

How could anyone not appreciate the fabrication....not one of my all time favorite cars, but that has nothing to do with the coolness of the project.

GRABRR - I have always enjoyed the odd ball cars just as much as the generic mustangs and Camaros. I love them all. I really wanted to take my style and add it to an unusual car and the small car and big engine thing worked for Shelby so why not go down that road. All the benefits of the modern LS motor in a classic British car.
Rustomatic - I am always interested in other opinions. Some may be good or bad. Useful or a waste but always welcome. I learn something new every day. This website has a great group of people and if I can share my car to inspire or motivate someone else to get out there and build something then I'm all for it. There is some great fab and engineering in not only the shops around the country but in the home garages and backyards, I like seeing what everyone's up to and you can even sport the next big trends in cars by spending some time talking to others like us. Thanks for your interest.

Great to see another out of the box build because there are so many other cars that deserve something to be done with them, and I am sure you will find that there will be way more interest in something like this than you thought, atleast that is what I found to be true with my classic Volvo builds.

really cool,I had a few mgbs my uncle has a special edition and we thought about a ls swap but not to this level.
great build. I would not make it too smooth that you can not tell its a mgb .It would look great with a vintage road racer look.
cant wait to see it done.

Fantastic concept. Really impressive fabrication. I love it. My first car was an MG, and I always thought it would make a great PT car. If I can suggest one item to change, it would be not to run 20's in the rear. 18"/19" would be more than enough on that car. Just my own opinion, please don't take offense.

Later-A-body - No offense taken. When I first had the plan for the car I built it around the C5 wheels I had. I was really trying to get the stance right. With the Corvette front suspension and Jag IRS in the rear with a tread pattern of the corvette I really wanted to have an autocross capable car. I plan on TRYING to break it as much as possible when its done.
Basically I really wanted a widebody MG and sorry that my pic is on a trailer but here you can get an idea of the stance. I hope to run the New Forgeline Laguna wheels which had a vintage road race styling that I think will compliment the car well with the sized wheels during moch-up

If anyone is interested, and not to detract from this thread, there IS a British V8 forum, Britishv8.org. See LS1, Ford 302, even a Buick 455 in a MGB, Triumph TR's and Austin Healey bodies.

Hey Twentyover - I have a project journal on there site also. I wanted to get some feedback from the pro-touring crowd as the car is such a crossover build. I've really enjoyed the members feedback on this forum and I will maintain both journals. Thanks for your interest.

I love the build!!! I'm kind of doing something similar with an Austin healey sprite, though mines a lot more low tech... Still, gotta love the little old british cars!!!!!!!

Sorry I haven't updated this in a while. Life gets in the way sometimes.
Here are a bunch of pictures of my header build and my rear wheel wells.
You will notice I narrowed the rear frame rails then boxed them in again, I then fit in custom made 14 gauge trailer fenders to maintain the unibody structure and to keep the body super solid. I had already done a 1/4 plate on the inside of the frame rails to support the IRS crossmenber so there was no issues with anything moving or twisting when the old ones were cut out.
There was a local company that custom makes any fenders to your dimensions so I used these fenders to keep the structure. Normal wheel tubs are 20 gauge where these are 14 super strong for me to use as a foundation for the rear fender flair design.
The headers were mild steel 16 gauge 1 and 3/4 and were easy to build. I was not concerned with making them equal length since the car is already going to have stupid power to weight ratio. I'll keep posting pics as this moves along.
