Why are rear sway bars effective ?

This might be a candidate for shortest question with the longest answer. To keep it simple:

All cars will want to roll to a certain extent when cornering from the lateral loads. Sway bars (anti roll bars) are used to fight this roll and help keep the car flatter when cornering. A rear sway bar, in the right application, will help to achieve the desired roll-resistance of the entire suspension setup, and they can also be used to help turn the car when cornering by reducing the inside-rear tire's overall grip level, all things considered.

I'm sure someone (Ron Sutton) can elaborate on this better than I.

my short answer it is a good thing. Hotchkis plus others will have a great performance options but check this link if you have the ability to make some of the parts yourself. I did this and seemed to get some great help from it. I had to remove it on one of my trips since after I loaded the truck down some I cot into a clearance issue and the rest of the trip did not seem as stable. I have since modified it to fit my needs better. There are probably better options but this is a great start and will save a few bucks for other mods.
