Hi guys,
I'm in the process of moving parts off of a salvaged 2006 GTO and putting them into my '68 Camaro. One sticking point that I'm trying to work out. Getting the Brake Light on the dash to operate properly and show a hydraulic brake issue/failure (the idiot light)
So, I'm using the GTO booster and master cylinder, front and rear calipers from a C6 (as we all know, the front calipers are the same casting. Not so sure about the rears, but they look similar). I am also using the entire wiring harness/computers/dash, etc from the GTO. I'm not using the ABS stuff. Since the ABS HCU on the GTO acted as my proportioning valve, I need a new one. I have a new proportioning valve that I had on my Camaro, and I intend to use it. It is for a disc/disc setup. So I think I'm set up OK mechanically. The big question is: What tells the computer to light up the brake idiot light? I'm assuming is a sensor in the HCU, but I'm trying to figure out what type of signal is going to the HCU to tell the main computer to turn on the idiot light.

This is all theory at this point. None of my parts have been installed yet, so I can't do any testing.

Any ideas?

Thanks, John

The Ebrake triggers the light and so does the master cylinder fluid level sensor. Not sure if there is another sensor to monitor pressure, though...

Also 70s-ealy 80s prop valves had a switch so it one side(front or rear) lost pressure it would trigger the brake light. Often when bleeding that gets triggered and has to be pushed down to reset. 79-81 Trans Am with 4 WD(and the disc drums but a different valve).

I think SSBC or CP has one with it that is adjustable.

Ya, the prop valve does have the switch. I like the ebrake idea... will try that one out.

Thanks guys.
