Need Wheel suggestions on this 1970 T Bird!!!!!

Hello all. This is my buddys 1970 ThunderBird, soon to be a sweet Pro-Tourer. If we can choose a nice set of rims for it. I'm looking for those people with an eye for taste. Any ideas what would look bad a$$ on this ride? Thanks, John

black and machined, to pick up the vinyl top? Unless you are doing a complete make over, keep it cruise friendly (ride with 18"+ is going to conflict with the purpose of the vehicle, IMO). With the factory suspension even a 17" 55 series isn't going to stay flat to the road. At least 8.5 with a 255 or 275 width I suspect. CUV's will provide some tires, that with moderate lowering (it looks low, it that stock?), will give a decent stance.

Dare to be different! I dig it and think it's a little funny/ironic that it's parked in boat storage. It isn't a small car so proportionately, it is going to need some diameter to fill out the wheelwells. Figure out the O.D. of the tires on there now and then figure out how much you need to lower it to look and sit right without anything dragging and you'll get a good idea of the OD needed to make it look right. Then you need to decide if you want tall tires to get that OD or big wheels and not quite as much sidewall. Personally, I wouldn't hesitate to give it a 2-3" drop all the way around with 19s and 20s and still run a 40 series sidewall and cut *' off those exhaust tips so they were invisible and didn't get crushed in the first driveway I entered but that's just me. Diameter is a very personal and subjective thing but it also has to do with proportions, so make sure you fill it out and don't put Camaro size wheels on a land yacht. A good personal taste indicator would be to Google a 94-96 Impala SS and see if the stock sizes look better to your friend than the typical 18 or 20" up-sizes. They come stock with 255/55/17s and the body length/wheelbase has similar proportions to the Bird.

For style, A nice thick spoke like our Wildsides would look good on there but style is subjective too. These are a good indicator of your personal feelings about diameter too as the car is just a tad smaller than the Bird.
