Putting a ZZ502 crate motor into a 67 Camaro (with a Tremec TKO600 and manual clutch) and wanted to get some input on headers. I've struggled with the full length headers fitting around the power steering as well as long having very good ground clearance on my 69 Camaro...I ended up going with a set of Lemon's, but don't want to spend that much for this project.
I was originally planning on just putting a set of Hooker Competition headers in along with a big dent in the tube to clear the steering box. But worried about dragging the flange on speed bumps (car is lowered). I came across the Hedman 68610 shorty headers and was thinking this might be a better solution (better ground clearance and supposedly will clear the steering box). Any input on the fit of these headers and/or what I will lose by going with the Shorties over the full length?
Thanks....Eric

Similar story. I just took off a set of Super Comps and put on a set of Dan's beauties. It would be hard for me to consider anything else going forward.

I highly recommend that you guys pick up the current issue of Popular Hot Rodding. Nearly the entire mag this month is dedicated to exhaust headers. There are some really good articles about what size and length pipes to run including tons of calculations to help you along the way

I'm using Lemon's 2 1/8 long tube headers in my 67 Camaro with a 496. Fits like a glove.

Here are some pictures of my Lemons Headers.

I have a set of Doug's shorty headers on my big block in my Chevelle. They fit really well. I'm running 3" exhaust and everything is tucked up nice and neat. It sits pretty low and it's never dragged on anything.

Have you looked at Sanderson yet? I'm really happy with them in my bbc chevelle. As far as performance goes I think you may lose a little top end power going with shorties but I doubt it would even be that noticeable by the seat of your pants. For me fitment would be the deciding factor, that's why I went with shorties. I have my car sitting really low (about 6" lowered) and I have tons of clearance. They cleared all steering, clutch linkage, etc with no problems but in a chevelle.
