Well guys...Dave has been thrashing on this car for many months and it has never looked any better...and just in time for this wknd's Monterey Reunion where I have no doubt...it'll be the best looking Can-Am car on the property!

Very nice, good to see David roll out one of his own cars. Seems like he is always wrenching on somebody else's car and giving out free advice here, glad he had time to work on the Lola too. I'm curious to see what he might do with his Camaro next.

Tech was passed and he's been out on track testing today!

My hat's off to David on what was a monumental undertaking in a relativelty short period of time. He's accomlished a heck of a lot in our community and it's great to seem him able to take some time and be on track with one of his true (but often understated) passions.

And kudo's to John for all the help he provided. I had hoped to be there but my schedule didn't permit it. Without John's dedicated help I'm not sure if David would have made it.

Hey guys...thanks for all the kind words.

It's just nice to know that I was in a position to help a friend in a time of need so in realilty, something that anyone would gladly do for someone else.
If I was the difference in making this a reality...I take great pride in that...gotta be good karma, right?

Amyhow's today could not have gone any better, passed tech no prob and Dave ran a good strong 20 minute session taking the car to 7k with no issues,,,back in the pits she was clean and ready to roar tomorrow @ 9:45am.

Everything from this point on is gravy...I'm tired so follow along with the complete story here:

Some of you may have noticed I've not been posting here much the last few months. I sanded 4 coats of paint off the Lola starting back in may, finished up the stripping & fiberglass repair on the last pieces just last week. The painter was painting each piece as I got them stripped to bare fiberglass. The doors got color last Saturday, white number rounds on Monday, red outlines Tuesday morning, numbers hand painted Tuesday afternoon. The car was at the track Wednesday, driving it Thursday. I feel like one of those guys on Overhaulin! Very tired, but very happy how it turned out. It's been 47 years since this car was this color. It's nice to put a car back to what it was back in the day.

Next to the Trans Am cars, the Can-Am cars are my favorite. What can I say David you have good taste. All the thrashing was worth it, the car is spectacular. Love seeing really valuable cars getting beat on that hard, have fun buddy.

Thanks, I am having a great time! It's way more fun with some good friends to share it with. I started 12th in the morning race, I placed a couple places above where I started, drove a little harder & ran into some brake pad fade (solid 1/2" front rotors) which nearly put me off at turn 6,- the left hander heading up the hill to the corkscrew.
I finished 13th in the afternoon race but we only had 3 laps under green, the rest were under yellow due to spin outs from drivers driving too hard. I was told I turned 1:41 laps.

I had loads of interest in the car, one person was good friends with Buck Fulp, the original owner.

Jon @ Hotchkis
08-23-2013, 08:22 AM
Wowza! The Lola looks like it is fairly easy to drive and well balanced. Any plans on how to keep the brakes cooler next year?

David Pozzi
08-23-2013, 11:38 AM
I've been gradually upgrading the brakes over the years. I already had brake duct hose to the rotors with aluminum "cans" around the rotor outside. The rotors are 1/2" solid by 12". This year I added better brake duct scoops in the nose to catch the air and funnel it into the hose. I'm going to look for better brake pad material next and maybe look at the ducting again, maybe go larger, I'm at 3" now.

The car is pretty easy to drive but takes some arm strength that wears on me as the session get's near the end. I left some understeer in it and that prevented me from getting on the throttle early as I'd like in a corner. I made a rear shock adjustment that helped balance it better and it felt way better under braking & over the hill at turn 1 with more rear rebound. If the brakes could stand it, I'd stay on the gas harder/longer at T1 but it's scary catching up to a car at T2 and wondering if the brakes are going to fade...

It's a Lotus 23 with huge flares. There was a black one with the owners son driving. He grew up driving go-karts and blew me off down the straightaway. Must have had a heck of an engine & the car looked like a go-kart.

Is that car the Genie? It was remarkably smaller than the Lola with a similar powerplant.

Yes, a Genie. Tube Chassis made by Huffaker in Petaluma Ca. Built upstairs in a loft, they had to lower them out a "window".
