Will The 700r4 In My Chevelle Work Behind A Pontiac Motor?

Upgrading to a TKO600 and a buddy wants to buy my 700r4 for his 68 GTO. Will it work? Is it basically universal since they are both A-body cars? I have a 72 Chevelle. Is there some sort of adapter that needs to be used?

he'll need an adapter plate and some drive shaft modification, other than that it'll work fine.
