I recently bought myself a 1968 Chevy C-10 with some patina. Its got some spots and paint discoloration but a fantastic rebuilt 350. Personally, I dot want to change the style of it because I like the way it looks. But i dont know why...I've had lots of people come up to me and say 'hey cool truck, needs a paint job tho' and i respond back, 'Nooo its a Patina truck, im keeping it like this' and they dont understand why? Neither do I but it looks badass! Anyone else have any other reasoning why to have a 'patina car/truxk'??

Its your truck and if you like the patina'd look then who cares what other people think? I personally like the true patina older cars have, so you've got my vote!

Funny, i've always wondered why. then I think, well it's pretty neat, but then I think, but how awesome would it look with a real paint job, and then I ask, do you think they try to add rust and other stuff on purpose, or is that how the vehicle really is and then I just keep looking and think cool, but is it really?! :) hahahaha

Same reason people like antique furniture, just by the looks you can tell it has history. I hate on some tv shows when someone has an old coke machine that is wore out and the paint is faded and they get it refurbished with new paint, to me it just looks like something brand new you bought from the store, takes all the wonder and illusion out of it. I say put new parts in it to make it run and leave the paint alone.

IMO, Patina is just another name for too cheap to do a nice paint job. I HATE patina cars/trucks!!!!

I like patin/rusty cars and trucks you dont have to worry about anyone scratching it and nice paint doesnt make it go fast lol I guess its not for all people. But yes I get it all the time on my nova. are you going to fix the body? NOPE not anytime soon. I love the look they give me

The way I look at it is the one thing a person can not duplicate is what mother nature does to paint and metal

Patina is gahay..........

(Says the guy with a very patina'd 58 wagon that almost everyone says is bitchin!) LoL!

Seriously, the Camaro I gotta always "watch out" for and rub on and and keep super clean. The wagon.... I drive and lean on, and set things on, and every once in awhile clean the tires, wheels, windows and chrome. MUCH less demanding and actually a bit more fun!

I like patina'd trucks because it reminds me of my grandad and great uncles. I hung around them working on small gardens, tractors, whatever they were fixing. Their trucks were beat up and used for work. Nothing like the trucks sold today. Fwiw, I like relic guitars too. They look like they have been played and if my son knocks it over, I won't lose any sleep.

My falcon has patina, the natural kind from a crappy 80's paint job and 30 years of outside storage.

I want to paint the car, but paint doesn't make it go faster, and it gives you liberty to keep moding without worrying about the paint. I have rolled the fenders twice for more tire clearance, switched mirrors and hit dozens of cones with it and it doesn't look so bad. After I get the cage installed and save for a while it will get new glass and a paint job.

It is a love or hate thing at the shows. Some people say don't touch it. Some ask if I am going to restore it. Most that don't like it just walk by.

Even though I have a newly painted car,I think it would be more enjoyable to have a patina'd vehicle.you can put more money into pro touring it or whatever you'd like.you also won't have to stress about people touching, scratching or messing with your paint.imo I think that patina looks really cool and tells a story.that is that it is the right kind of patina and not painted on

I agree with all your comments! Well except the guy who said people with patina cars are to cheap for paint....but the patina cars tell history and holds life within it! Unlike some new candy apple 1969 camaro thats cool for a few minutes, but a patina'd car is something that you can talk about for hours about an not just 'well this new paint cost this much and the new interior cost me this' I love the history these cars go through and I want to preserve that! But with that being said, patina vehicles also make for perfect sleepers. And thats what I intend to do.

I love me some patina. I can appreciate a good paint job, but I am a fan of well weathered items, be it cars, guns, buildings, shop equipment, cities farm equipment, you name it, I love it. It makes me sad that cars being sold today will not age well.

I'll be the first to add a photo. It's my Falcon project. Her name is Grace.

I still second...Where are the pictures?

I'd go with the patina look. I'm thinking of doing the faux-tina look, which will bring a lot more criticism than your real patina finish. But in the end, its your truck (and my car). I want to drive the car and not worry about the finish.

While researching faux-tina paint jobs i found this thread.

Interesting technique. Parts of it look a little more realistic.
