I made a mistake-Please I need a solution.

I changed my mono leaf springs to a 5 leaf springs because of my wide tires in the back and my air shocks were not working properly, also one leaf spring was wore out and was lower then the other, and now after I changed it to the mult-leaf springs my car bounces all over the place, :crying:its an awful ride. it feels like its hopping down the road. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!
I'm hoping to find some kind of shocks to stop the bouncing any idea's? I'm not a suspension expert by any means but my knowledge tells me that your leafs might just be to stiff..either. Let them "break" in a Lil bit or as much as you may not want to..... change them....either completely or by removing a leaf or two from the leaf pack.

Ok thank you but letting them break in is not an option it bounces so bad it jars every inch of your body

Just to double check, did you let the suspension settle down with the car's weight on it before tightening up the spring bolts? If not, you might have the bushings in a bind where they shouldn't be.

Are the 5 leafs a stock replacement type spring? Do you know the rate? Also what shocks do you have on it? Are they new?

Yes...Air shocks, dont know the rate but my car is too light or something!

No I didnt, I had to cut the spring bolt for it to fit as I was told by the company to do. Then I bolted it all down with the conversion hardware they provided me with the leaf springs. I was thinking maybe put some cement bags in the trunk and see how it rides...I really dont know, I have to do something.

It couldn't hurt to loosen the spring bolts with the weight of the car on them...maybe even jounce the back of the car up and down a bit with them loose, then snug them back up with the car at ride height.

It sounds like the springs are pretty stiff. My guess is that you will need some good performance shocks to keep them under control.

Get the air shocks off of there as quick as you can. I bet they are making things worse.

Thanks cornfedbill I'm doing it now, waiting for shocks they should be here on the eighth I will let you know how it worked..thanks again to everyone that helped..

Did you try running them with no air in the shocks. Bouncing like this is often associated with synchronization of spring frequencies front/rear or incompatible shock rates front/rear. To keep the new rear springs, you may have to step something in the front end.

Koko, take the time to loosen the shackle and frame mount bolts for the leaf springs (don't remove them!), then bounce the car up and down repeatedly a few times to make sure the bushings are centered in the car's travel, then tighten the front mounting bolt to 70ft/lbs and the shackle bolts to 40ft/lbs (with the weight of the car on the axle!). This will make sure that the bushings in the leaf springs are not bound and causing the car to ride stiffer than it should be.

What shocks did you end up buying?

I bet a combination of the new shocks and checking the bushings will make a night and day difference.

Check your shock length. Your car looks pretty high, plus your car came with mono-leaf springs, & multi leaf springs will space the shock plate down, reducing available shock extension travel.

This is a augment I have with my dad all the time, He lovers air shocks and thinks they are the same as air ride the 60's called and they don't want them either. His 57 chevy was doing what your Camaro was doing until I snuck over his garage a took off the shocks and loosened the leaf bolts and tightened them up with weight on it. fixed it but he just re installed them on his 65 el camino but does not have that problem because it has coils.
