I'm working on a '71 Nova that is getting close to being finished. Some of the goals I have for the car is to turn it into a pro-touring car while keeping the rear seat but also adding a mini tub. As of right now the suspension is pretty much stock. I am looking into a four link setup for the rear and in the future swapping out the stock front suspension. But for now I want to get it on the street and I'm starting to run into issue's with putting a mini tub in and having to notch the frame. I plan on mostly driving it on the street and going to the track a few times a year, so any input or advice would help me out a lot.

Thanks,
Brad

Gosh jealous I'm still stuck on leaf springs with caltracs bars I'd get a torque arm or 4 link if I had the dough

Welcome, MN here as well. Are you using DSE mini tubs or trying to mod the existing ones?

Welcome to the site....... try to post a few pictures of the car when you get a chance. Have you seen our Nova Torque Arm system?

We offer the most well-balanced, easy to install rear suspension available for the 68-74 GM X-Body (Nova Platform). The chassis under your car nearly identical to that of the 67-69 F-Body with a slightly longer wheelbase.

Using our proven track record in torque arm development and application we developed a torque arm conversion kit that brings modern suspension technology to these cars.

Here is a VERY informative tech article written by our R&D manager explaining what it does:

The guys at V8TV recently shot a great install and results video of our kit on a customers 71 Firebird:

Here is a video of a customer who got 2nd place in Street Machine Class at Kansas Good Guys last Summer. He was running air over shocks built for ride quality not performance and had not adjusted the roll center via Watt’s Link….. he should be able to cut some major time off just by addressing these issues.

Here is a install article that Super Chevy did a few years back:

We offer a Torque Arm kit for the stock GM 10 & 12 bolt rear differentials and a kit for guys who want a Ford 9". The Ford 9” kit includes a bare Strange housing for $600 more than the 10 & 12 bolt kits. Take a look at the link below detailing an install that a Pro-Touring member completed with our Ford 9 in. kit in his 1973 Firebird:

The owner of the 73 Firebird made the following comments to us:

“I've put 4000 miles on it and drive it at every possible opportunity. No track time yet due to other commitments but there is always this spring. I still have to play with the shock settings to soften up the launch, it is just incredible how the car reacts from the factory setup. The rear stays planted no matter if it's in the corners or straights. I've had ZERO issues with the entire setup, I'm EXTREMELY HAPPY with it. I hope to get some auto-x & road course time this spring.”

I still can't thank you all there enough for everything, the kit really changed the car into a ride that I truly enjoy driving.”

Our entire 67-69 suspension system was recently showcased on Two Guys Garage as well:

93138Been away for a while but I've ordered a torque arm setup from Speed Tech along with viking double adjustable coil overs front and rear. Have the front's in right now and just getting into installing the torque arm kit. I'll post some more pics, but here's a few I have so far. This pic is just when I brought it home from paint93140 Had the engine on the dyno. I was hoping to be a little closer to 500 hp, but for now 460 will have to do

Your car is coming together nicely. What kind of troubles were you having with the minitub project? How'd that turn out?

Thanks, thinking I should have it on the road this year. So far I think putting the mini tubs in won't be all that difficult, I haven't started yet due to the crazy winter we had. Right now I'm working on getting the torque arm kit mocked up and after that I will cut the inner fenders out. I also will be installing aluminum body mounts. Right now I'm just waiting on a little mix up in the kit I ordered, they sent 2 passenger side leaf spring pockets. Speedtech had no problem resolving, new one on the way. Figured out the originals won't work, I think I would have run into issue's with the angle of the trailing arms.

Welcome. I just left Northeast north dakota to work outside detroit. Going to have to watch others progress until I get my projects moved out here from the farm.
