Hi All,

I've just finished tacking up my shortened Toyota Supra IRS conversion for my 1966 Volvo 122. What I need is some real experience to give me some guidance on coil over selection. Here's what I'm up to...

Start with 1990 Toyota Supra IRS - build a jig and narrow the subframe 6".

Here's the jig with all the suspension mount points.

Custom axles built.

Narrowed subframe tacked up and ready for a test fit.

Looks like it's going to work just fine.

The coil over will come off the stock upright and mount off the frame into the trunk area. The spring perches in this photo have been removed. But you get the idea.

Here's the area in the trunk that I've got to work with. The old shock mount is visible against the rear seat closing panel. Where the sound deadening material ends is where the frame connects, so I'll come off the frame with a bracket and go up into the trunk, then sheet it in when I'm done.

So, I'm busy figuring out the sprung vs unsprung weights of all the parts and have an idea of the corner weights (from another car - similarly equipped). What I need to do at this point is get a set of coil overs ordered and finish the fabrication.

Here's what I'm thinking...about 6" of total travel, split into 4" bump and 2" droop. Is this reasonable? I can work with who ever is making the coil over on spring rates and dampening. what I need to know is what sort of travel is reasonable for a street/track car? This car is also getting a C4 Corvette IFS - so I'd like to match the coil overs and travel (I'm just guessing that's what you should do).
