Okay I have another thread about a heim joint noise that I have on my 79 Camaro but this is now with the tru turn I have on my 72 nova.
I started to hear this creaking noise when turning and when I got home today I had someone turn the wheel while I looked for the noise. Come to find out it was from the heim end on the driver side. I lubed the joint and the noise went away " for now"
I would like to know if I'm the only person is having issues with Ride techs heim ends. This noise is with two separate cars and separate areas of the car. I called tech support and was told that I need to lube the joint every so often to take care of the noise. I don't think I should have to do this. If they needed to be lubed wouldn't they have a grease fitting?
Has anyone had this problem? I'm starting to get very frustrated with this
Thanks
I drive my Camaro every day with the tru-turn and I haven't had any noise from the system at all rain or shine, did they say why(possibly)

I drive my daily also (unless its winter). They just said it happens and spray it with dry silicon or lithium grease. He said with them being Kevlar lined its a tight fit and could make noise. This was a noise that sounds like the steering column was falling apart.
The Kevlar lined heim ends will not make any noise unless the ball has gotten loose in the race. Then it might make a rattle. Very uncommon, but not unheard of. That is why we use the kevlar lined ends instead of the less expensive off shore units. I suppose there is some theroretical combination of circumstances that could allow a grain of debris to get between the kevlar lining and the race to cause the noise...I've not yet seen it happen, but that doesn't mean it's impossible. We can replace the heim end to see if that cures the noise. Is the noise a rattle, a squeak, or a grinding noise?

Thanks for the reply Bret
The noise is more of a creaking noise. I checked the en for any end play and found none. I did lube the joint and have about 20 miles on it today with more to come. It's going to rain tomorrow so we will see what that does also. I might give your tech a call and get another end if that's possible?

It is. Ask for Rodney. Be patient...this is NSRA Nationals week in Louisville...most of us will be there at least for sometime. I will alert Rodney to this thread.
Did you spray the heim end and did that abate the noise [at least temporarily]? Is there another connection nearby that may have benefited from that squirt of spray lube?
Different people have different tolorances for creaks, groans, and rattles. These old cars typically make enough noise that its hard to nail any one noise down. BUT...if you are THAT guy [and I mean that as a compliment] persistance will identify and resolve the noise.
Then...there is always the volume knob on the stereo [sorry I couldn't resist :)]

Haha my radio is a cassette deck from the early 80's lol.
I did spray that end first and the noise went away and did not come back today either. I'm not as picky as some but this noise was a 7 out of 10 as far as a uncommon noise.
I will just give Rodney a call next week. Thanks again
