allright against my better jugement i bought a 1981 trans am. nice shape needs paint but over all nice.

drove the car home,put new timing chain,plugs wires,new rad sitting on the floor.car starts and purs like a kitten.but when give her some gas she pops through the carb and lacks power.have 110 lbs in all cyl.broke out a cervice manual and rechecked many times.now im stumped?HELP please.:crying:

First thing to check is ignition timing. Also, did you install the timing chain to the mfr's recommended cam timing (aka; straight up) - or did you degree the cam / advance the cam timing?

Backfire though the carb, in my experience, is typically due to ignition timing that is way too advanced (mixture ignites before intake valve fully closes; pop)

You'll need to make sure the power valve diaphragm I'm the carb wasn't ruptured in the process of all the carb backfires, if so it could lead to idle issues and excessive richness.

Just my initial thoughts.

if you want somyhing done right ya got to do it yourself.
i owe you guys big time.no pun intended.NO WEIGHT SPRINGS IN DIS.
as soon as the motor turns the wieghts fully expand advancing the timing.
