I started building a air intake box to breath from the cowl hood, it looks good and seen others that work but my tunner says not to do it because it will never run right.
Is because of the MAF sensor location? or is it he doesnt know what hes talking about.. it would be nice to know before I put another few days into it. I already bought all the parts ,steel, filter, hoses etc.. should I build it and try anyway?

Not sure of your setup but Its been done already with on ill effects.

Here is an example of one on a chevelle

The builders name is bczee over @ ls1 tech.

poop...
I have seen something like it on here or ls1 tech on trans am shaker hoods and 2 chevelles with cowl intakes, but no mention of how they run or if they need re-tuning.
mine is a box that sits on the 2 coil covers that takes air in from the cowl through a round K&n filter top. It will have a 4" to 3.5 " 180 into the box from the intake box .
the only thing I was trying to decide is here to put the MAF , near the TB or near the air box further away.

I don't see how a cowl inducted hood would affect the MAF .
Year One did that setup on the Trans Ams they built a few years ago with the LS engines and the shaker hoods on them .

I believe Andrew's GTO does not have a MAF.

Did it ! It was not easy took me around a week but It runs the same as it did before.
I made the mini cowl scoop from thin gauge sheet metal and used a k&n filter top and sealed it to the hood with garage door seal.
It looks better than some of the motor covers I have seen and makes the cowl hood useful.

Looks good! Do you have any pictures of when you were piecing everything together?

Thanks.
Sorry I did not take build picts, I did not plan on using it because I thought it would not work but kept playing with the welder when I was bored and tested it then finished it after it worked.
I will take some picts next time I need to remove it.
A wing nut ,4 nuts and a clamp and its off.

I like I'm planning on doing a set up like that. I'm thinking about doing a spectre set up in addition to the cowl induction anybody have any opinions on that?
