Hi everyone,

I'm Joseph from India and have joined this forum due to my fascination for everything concerning muscle cars.

From where I come, we have zero muscle cars. The only cars having above 400 hp are the beemer m's, porsche's, ferrari's etc. Hence my knowledge is very limited. So please pardon my ignorance.

I dream of creating my own muscle car. Maybe in a couple of years, but that doesn't curb my interest to learn.

So here come a few noob questions.

1. Why is the ls3 not so popular for engine swaps compared to other ls engines?

2. Is the oil issue while road racing the primary concern?

3. What's the minimum wheel size if 14" brake discs are used? Will 17's do?

That's all I can think of right now as in questions. Will ask more as and when they pop in my brain cells.

Welcome to the board!

1. LS3's are very popular engine swaps. There's no reason they shouldn't be. LS7s have a better oiling system because they are dry sump, and the LS7 uses better components and are capable of more naturally aspirated power. But the LS3 is half the price of a 7 so it depends on how worth it the cost is to you!

2. Yes the oiling system is a concern while road racing.. So are the connecting rod bolts at high RPM.

3. You'll need 18" wheels to use a 14" rotor.

Welcome to the board Fal. Yeah LS3's are cheap, easy to work on, and simple to get parts for. I don't know where you heard that they weren't popular, but they are. I'm a Mopar guy and can tell you that!! Our hobby can be expensive, which is why if you're starting out, you may want to pick up someone else's project on the cheap. There are some sweet rides here and it's a great hobby to get into. Just have plenty of tools, time, patience...and oh yeah money!!
