I have been trying to figure out what going on with my fuel gauge, I installed a tanks fuel tank and sending unit american auto wire kit and tried 2 new fuel gauges and the needle pins past full .

I checked everything that I could without pulling the tank down again.I grounded the tank and sender I even ran wirers from the gauge to the sender wires...seems the sender is wrong or defective.

Is it possible that tanks sent me the wrong sender? if so how can I test it?

Any Ideas?, I hate it when everything is new and still does not work when the parts from 1969 worked fine!

sounds like a wrong gauge for the sender for the or vice versa... there are numerous resistances for fuel gauges, typical old style gm sender is 0-90ohm to be used with a 0-90ohm gauge. make sure your not using a different resistance gauge than what the sender resistance signal is.

easiest way to tell is hook up an ohm meter to your signal wire for the gauge.

The ground I am talking about is the sending unit wire itself to test the gauge and the gauge is fine.
I tried to test the sender but my ohm meter sucks, I checked the sender to see if there was any ground coming from the wire and there was nothing.
It would be much easier to change the gauge since it already out but do not know what one to order, maybe all then send the wrong ones back.
but if the sender is defective I would be wasting more time and money.
I need to find out what sender TANKs sent me , the box says 0-90 ohm gm same as the gauges Im trying but I got the wrong parts more than one on this project.
