hey there, new to the forum and am having a hell of a time finding information on the proper gap/distance between the bottom edge of the door and the rocker panel. my problem is that when i began my restoration, i went crazy disassembling the entire thing and removed both of my doors and cut out the rocker panel without doing any measurements first. if anybody here would be willing to give me a measurement of this gap in mm that would be fantastic as i have been stuck on this part of the project for a couple of weeks now and cannot find this information anywhere .
p.s. my car is a 1971 firebird esprit and the panel i am using is a goodmark full outer panel for 70-81 camaros. thanks in advance!

order a assembly manual, I think i got mine from year one or ames for my 73 Trans am. It has gap measurements in it.

I'm sure there is a spec for the door bottom gap, but I would shoot for the door end gap and the front door edge to fender gaps first- the last thing you want is your doors touching the fenders or the jams.

Just went through this on a '71. Set the rocker panel to door gap .250 - .312. You will know it's right when the upper curve of the back of the door looks correct to the quarter panel.

That depends on which side of the car. One of the door/quarter gaps wasn't very good from the factory on the early 2nd gens. Scroll through the project thread linked in my signature and you'll find info about the door/quarter gap as well as nose panel alignment.

Yep, they were not very good. I will change my statement to 'when the gaps look reasonably correct'.

The guy who asked this question hasn't logged on since he posted this... in 2013. Don't think he'll see this, haha.
