O.K. I want to know, would you run the exhaust to the rearend or out the back?

In the UK they must exit the car due to fumes entering the car.

I am assuming you are debating whether or not to "dump" the exhaust under the car or to use tail pipes and have the exhaust exit at the rear of the car.

Dumps :
1)No tail pipes (positive/negative visual ?)
2) Louder exhaust note in interior of car
3)exhaust fumes at stop lights

Tail pipes:
1) Tail pipes (positive/negative visual ?)
2) quieter interior
3) less exhaust fumes

Your choice. I went with tail pipes.

Just to add to Scott's post. This is kinda a pet peeve with me. I do a lot of shows and it really rankles me when the guys with "dumps" cruise by kicking up dust and junk all over the clean cars. I know it bothers everybody who has to then go dust off their car.

I hear you on the dust thing. I have the tail pipes exiting behind the rear wheel well and it does the same thing. Next go-around they'll exit straight out the back.

I don't really have a choice. My car has been backhalved and there's just no room to run the exhaust out the back. Still planning on running the exhaust out the rocker panels in the future,though.

I HAD tail pipes with the transverse flowmaster system I installed years ago. I got sick of the flowmaster sound altogether (becasue just about everyone and thier mother has them around here). So I went with a straight through design rather than chamberd, and got Ultra Flo welded mufflers. I was on the cheap, so I basically hacked into the existing flowmaster pipes, and modified them by way of making my own offsets and welding it all together. Didn't bother with tailpipes. Made a pair of "dump" turndowns that point at a 45* angle toward the rear, rather than straight down. At stop lights, I don't get any fumes inside the car with both windows open, none whatsoever. And to tell you the truth, by installing the Ultra Flo mufflers, it allowed my engine to breathe better and the exhaust doesn't have the overly rich smell it had with the Blowmaster. I couldn't be happier with my current exhaust. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

And regarding interior noise, it depends on what muffler you choose. My Blowmaster was incredibly annoying interior-wise. At idle, it felt like my head was going to ah-splode. The Ultra Flos are very mellow, nice and bassy, and just sound oh-so sweet. As quiet as they are compared to the flowmaster, I still set off car alarms.
