Good read. I imagine you are everything a company would want in a sponsorship candidate. Well respected on a forum, can wrench, hard working, attending as many events as you can, bangshift articles to widen their reach, etc. That being said, who knows how much you have invested in tires, time, gas, etc. to get out to enough races to draw the attention of Ridetech. Congrats, I think you earned it.

Nice article. Definitely puts things into perspective for those that think Sponsor = "Free".

four sets of tires last year! that's easy math 1000 bucks a set = $4000.00 last year in tires on the second set this year

Good article. I know plenty of people who have spent three times what a part cost to make it work, but because they got a deal or freebie, they think it's worth it. Okay, I've been guilty of that a time or two.

Not a huge fan of seeing these cars plastered with sponsor logos. That being said, I could probably be talked into a tire decal for tires....

Excellent representation of some of the issues involved in a sponsorship program. That is why we are VERY careful in working with people who 1. understand and are able to accommodate a certain level of travel, 2. are able to tune a given component to be competitive [parts do not make your car fast...you make your car fast], 3. can be gracious when they lose. Because you will lose more than you win. That is why winning is so special! 4. can give us accurate, relevant feedback on how to improve our product. Beleive it or not, not everything we do is perfect the first time :).

Rodney, thanks for an accurate and relevant article...and for allowing RideTech to be a part of your program!

Bottom line: Dont PLAN on getting sponsored or base your budget around it. Build the car to do what you want to do with it very well and maybe you might attract some help. Well done Rodney, you have earned your stripes.

Thanks to everyone who reads and enjoys these little stories or ideas that rattle around in my head, I never thought anyone would give a crap about what I have to say or what I'm doing, I started doing this 5 years ago, the first 14 months I built the car in my own 2 car garage, I needed something welded, so I bought a welder and a book, I needed a panel replaced, I did it, I needed to wire up the car, I did it, I have been lucky enough to have meet and created great friends along the way(and I have been lucky enough that they were very well known in the industry and I didn't even know it) I know it now but when I started they were just the really cool people......and so I have a new story to write
