I need to make a decision and move forward buying the front suspension pieces for my 73 Camaro project. I've been searching this site, and will continue to do so, but a lot of data is older and I dont want to miss out on anything new in this area with more and more companies supplying 2nd gen F-body suspension parts.

Since the 2nd gen suspension geometry is decent, I'm not going with a full aftermarket subframe (especially when they run $1k over 1st gens), but I do want to go with new control arms, taller spindles or upper ball joint, maybe coil overs (primarily for height adjustment), sway bar, and faster ratio box.

A high priority here is to run the widest tire possible up front without rub issues, and I dont want to buy parts that dont help in this area.

The manufactures REALLY DO NOT LIKE talking about what size tire will fit with their system beyond the up-size that will fit a stock system - unless youre buying a complete subframe. I assume for liability reasons.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated on which systems allow the most clearance, and/or what to look for in a system for the same. If it matters, I prefer 17" wheels for more sidewall, but am flexible up to 18s. Also, the frame will be out for stripping, painting and assy - so additional mods could be done while its out if it would help.

Or, if you have a second gen F-body, what ya got, and what tire/wheel works?

Thanks!

I have the SPC adjustable upper control arms, tall ball joints and stock lower control arms with new bushings and ball joints. I would of done the lowers if I had the money but I left those out for now since they make a smaller impact on performance improvement. I have hotchkis springs and bilstein shocks with a large solid sway bar in the front. My tire size is 265/35/18 on a 18x9 tire. At full lock it hits the sway bar on the inside and on my 2nd gen camaro the inner fenders are the biggest thing from letting me run a big tire up front. I had to massage the outer inner fender by the wheel lip quite a bit to keep the tires from rubbing. Personally I am happy with the ride and height of my front end with this combo. It gets a lot of street miles and didn't want to go to aggressive with springs and shocks until I learn how to drive better.
