so im about to stuff a 700r4 in my 64 el camino next week.
only thing im still unsure of is what to do with the tv cables
I have two carb options for my 350:
a spread bore Holley 650 double pumper (currently on the truck)
or an edelbrock 750 afb style carb (currently on my duster that's going efi this fall)
im willing to use either carb on the elky. either one will be a placeholder until I get the time and inclination to go efi. that should be in a few months, as I already have all the parts except for fuel pump.
anyway, which carb should I use, and what's the cheapest, most effective solution to getting the tv cable in and right? looking at summit and jegs, and googling, there are WAY too many options for me to know which one is right.
what should I use?

as long as you have the proper linkage arm to clip the TV cable to either one will work fine. WHen I swapped a TH200-4R in to my 72 cutlass, I grabbed the throttle cable bracket off of a mid 80's G body. I then swapped throttle arms off of a CC Quadrajet and put it on my original carb. Not sure how the holley is put together. but I was able to grind the mushroomed part off the shaft that held the arms on and reweld the new arm to the old carb.
In the end, its the geometry of the arm you need to get right.

Michael,
Take a look at the new Street Demon carbs. I researched the crap out of this for my 2004R swap in my 68 Impala and I found the features of the Street Demon fit my needs. It's not the cheapest but I am impressed by the design. I have zero hot start issues (common with the Edelbrock carbs if not running a spacer), good gas mileage, and it ran great out of the box.
If not, they both make the correct mounting stud to get correct geometry. Just make sure you check your adjustment with the pan off to make sure of two thing. 1-The plunger is slightly depressed at idle 2-the plunger is fully depressed at WOT. If you cannot meet these two conditions initially, you have a geometry problem.

For me the best package is the one I got from bowtie overdrives. They have an awesome writeup called TV made easy. It explains how everything assoc with the TV works and what is the correct way to set everyting up. As stated above, the geometry is key. They have the correct linkage for all the different carbs so you get good gepometry no matter what carb you have. They also have the correct TV spring to use in place of existing/stock TV spring. They also offer a basic kit to lock up the converter in 4th gear. I used their kit twice- once on a 700R4 and just recently on a 200-4R. If you've ever driven a car with the trans not set up properly its no fun to drive and can damage the trans. I think I had less the $200 in everything. I used a brake switch from a monte carlo ss for the converter unlock circuit but you can probably splice into the existing brake wires to mak i t work, just be sure to use an inline fuse. Scott
