      Help with color!

I need to finalize the paint selection for my '66 GTO Vert Restomod. I posted the project some time ago, and things are progressing.

      Current choices are:

      PPG tri-coat Candy Red:

      Or....

      PPG tri-coat Cabernet:

Both of the cars were painted by the same guy who is doing mine.

If the pics represent the color well enough I like the Cabernet. But something tells me the pics are a little off and I keep seeing the Candy as sweeter looking However ther are a lot of candy red GTO's in this world so I am voting CABERNET

Well, so far it's 80% for the cabernet. Please keep it coming!

To answer some comments... I took the pic of the candy red myself with a Nikon D300 and the pics are very accurate as to what I saw. I didn't take the pics of the GS with the cabernet - haven't seen that car in person yet. So, I can't say how accurate those pics are. That being said, the custom shop who is doing my bodywork and paint really like the cabernet more than the candy red. And the contrast will really set off the trim and the black/white interior with the top down. The cabernet does have a little purple tint to it I think. Depends on the light from what I remember, but really lights up in the sunlight.

BTW, you can see the project itself at http://s297.photobucket.com/albums/m...m/1966pontiac/

The list of "albumns" on the left (1 through 13) show the various stages and status of the project. It's a little scary.

Yeah, I've got one of those piles too. They're expensive, cause you know everything out there cost a ton more to replace what's inside Glad to see I'm not alone.

No way on the cabernet....I see to much how do I say it? Pinkish rosey flare. I'd go somewhere in the middle personally.

      Hey everybody,
Thanks for the input. I'm past the point of no return on this. Here is what I did.

I had the shop order a few small quantities of different colors - at about $50 per test unfortunately. The results?

I also thought that the "Candy Red" didn't have as much life in it
Some of the other reds were "too bright" for a car with as long a rear end as the '66 Convertible.
The test shot of Cabernet really looked great.
I needed to make a decision, since the engine block is to be the same color as the body.

Selected Cabarnet. Had a gun put on the test piece, and got a very close match in a BC/CC so I don't have to waste $1000 a gallon to spray a block. Got that paint and here's what the motor looks like so far. The color is actually brighter than this photo looks like:

      Thanks for all the help.
