Some guys have tossed them in the "tulip" panel, behind firewall , fender side of dash areas...mark steilow did it cut it in and made it look pretty nice , now he was using a later larger model gm tank thou

I can't say which tank to run but , run one that A holds the right amount of oil B you can possibly fit ... in the area I suggested ...otherwise you could possibly work something behind the headlight in front of the front tire . Lol or jam it in front of the rad lol

I don't think you are going to find a lot of people who have built the combination you are looking for... I know one of second gen that mounted a tank behind the passenger side headlight. You have to cut a hold in the inner fender and come up with a way to mount it. You also want to protect the bottom of it in some way.

At the firewall, I determined I couldn't use more than a 2g tank comfortably in a cylinder configuration when mounted to the firewall. There isn't enough height above the frame rail and with enough header clearance.

I ended up having a custom tank made by Stef's. This was after mocking up a shape that gave me the most volume and fit in my space. I think Finch used a 2.5G tank in that space. There are some pictures either on FB or one of the forums somewhere, but not a lot.

You are welcome to poke through my photobucket library. I don't have any finalized pics in there, but it's easier to see before I powder coated it black anyway...

You're looking for something bolt in, it doesn't exist. I would be surprised if there's a dozen 2nd gens around with dry sumps that aren't all out race cars. It doesn't make sense for a company to produce a bolt in solution for such a low volume application. There's not even a good bolt in solution for C5 Corvette's which is a larger market. You're going to have to either have a tank built or modify your car to use an available universal tank. Using the tank that Bryan had Steff's build is likely the path of least resistance. You ideally want at least 2.5 gallons minimum with the LS7 pump system if you want it to live for road course use.

That's good advice. Stock LS7s run out of oil on long left hand sweepers. Serious C6 guys ditch the factory "dry sump" for something better like this, or even better, like this.

I did the latter after blowing up mine.

If you're just building a cruiser or an occasional mild track day car, the factory system is adequate, though you should over fill the engine by a quart or so when you do go on track.

I figured something custom had to be made, looking to steal an idea of what people already had done. I'm keeping the stock pan, just to figure out which tank and where to put it,

What are y'all thoughts on putting it where the stock battery was? I could figure out a bracket to support the bottom, something on the core support and cutting a hold in the inner fender?

My fabricator did a second gen Camaro and put it where the battery was. He used a 2.5G tank. It's taller than you realize, and he was concerned about the possibility of something hitting it from the bottom. So he built a 'cage' under it to protect the bottom. I don't have details or pictures, but I do recall considering that area and thinking it was dangerous and hard to fit the size tank I wanted. The Firebird inner fender is a bit different than the Camaro, so perhaps the Camaro will be easier to fit something in that space.

Personally as I thought about it, I didn't want the weight that far forward either. And even when I decided to go custom, I couldn't fit a tank in that space very well that was 3G or more without some surgery that I didn't want to do. I also have downbars and my AC condenser in that area to contend with.

I agree, the battery location probably ain't ideal, but what other choice do I have? I'm open to ideas...that won't require me to pay someone $100 per hour to do. I would like to have it just like Tim, but DSE won't make me a bracket.

The tank I originally had is modified on the bottom and too small (only 2 gallons). The tank that Bryan had Steffs make is going to be the easiest solution but I would change the way he did the breather, I would have three -12 fittings added to the side, run one to a breather can and run the other two to each valve cover.
