      engine noise

      I have an engine noise after a fresh engine install. Pontiac 400, fast ez-efi, msd ign... Sounds like a gear whine from the intake/card area. it starts at 1500 rpm and starts to go away at 3500 rpm and higher. It is the loudest at 2000 rpm. Looking for ideas of what it might be. I hope its not the oil pump....
