      TCI Engineering's 1971 Camaro

      Project #RedDawn

Now that the C10 product development is nearly finished it is time to finally start the 2nd Gen Camaro development.

This car will be used for product development and performance testing. It will be a fairly quick/simple build. We plan to design a light weight tubular front clip similar to what we offer now for the 1st gens. We will probably just do a head & cam package on the existing engine and throw a built 700R behind it. We will mini-tub it of course and try to squeeze as much tire in it as possible. Depending on how things work out this car may replace our '68 that we currently have in the line-up.

Here is what it looks like now before we begin.

Wish the car we are doing was a 71 and was in this good of shape. Looking forward to the build.

Nothing to crazy to report on this project yet but it is moving forward. Most of the front has been disassembled.

Curious why you guys aren't planning to put a 6X auto in it??

I've actually been drooling over that trans, but it's so cost prohibitive...

We would love to run one also but we can't afford it either. Or I should say the guy that writes the checks is a Ford guy so our Chevy budget isn't enough.

The stock front clip is out and we've taken one of our 1st Gen clips and mocked it up

After mocking up the fully welded 1st gen Clip it was now time to take an unfinished clip and mock it up (we left off all 6 mounting points)

We left the slip joint unwelded so we could adjust the rear mounting point.

The firewall mount was pretty close

Ed checking the wheelbase and ride height

      More updates very soon.

Will this car receive the torque arm, or shall we see an over-the-axle boulder holder?

Yes, we plan on utilizing a Torque Arm system on the 2nd Gen.

Ed is using some 1/8" plate to locate the clip for now. The upper tubes had to be moved to accomodate the inner panels. I will continue to post updates as we make progress throughout the design phase.

The front clip is for the most part in the 1st stage of finalization. Fixtures are being made, first articles are being built so now they've moved onto the back of the car.

We will be posting the weight of our clip very soon but we're fairly certain it will be at least 100 lbs lighter than stock.

Looks awesome. What spindle are you using in front? Mustang II, Corvette?

I like the Ride Tech Coil overs, would also like to use their A-arms in my 73 Camaro build. Love the idea of a clean sub-frame with a rack and pinion.

We use our Custom spindle on this application.

The control arms will be proprietary with our front clip so the ridetech arms won't work.

Now that we've completed full mock up of a stock tub suspension kit it was time to move onto a kit to work with a mini-tub.

Our speaker tray was also in bad shape so we will make a new one.

It's been a few months since Ed has allowed me to post pics so bare with me as I catch you up to date.

The front clip is very close to completion.

Looking great, can't wait to see it done!

And I don't know what the exterior plans are, but I beg of you, please keep the full width front bumper on, or do a full Rally Sport conversion, nothing in between.... pleeaasseee!
