      Has anyone used Covan Classic

Look pretty nice for an up-grade.

Do a search on "Covan" and you will get plenty of hits. Personally I went with the DSE dash insert after seeing both side by side on the Hot Rod Power Tour.

      Comes down to the price

I have had both with pros and cons to each.

      Covans pros,

PRICE PRICE PRICE!! They put a nice package together with the gauges

Instructions are very well written and their harness makes it a snap to connect everything up.

Gives a great look to a very dull looking stock interior.

Option for predrilled and arranged holes for the gauges

      CONS:
Its plastic and although the fit is pretty good you may have to trim areas.

No chance of putting 5 inch gauges in it you are stuck with the 3 3/8 and 2 1/16 gauges,

The finish on the black is shiny

      DSE PROS

It is made of metal so it is very strong

The fit is very very good with virtually no trimming needed.

You can put in large 5 inch gauges with plenty of room for alot more gauges.

It is a smooth finish so you can paint it any color you want for a crystal clean appearance.

You can drill the holes anywhere you want to for the gauges.

      CONS:

PRICE!! At $550 for just the PANEL NO GAUGES

Have to drill your own holes in the panels

I have used both, and have to say the look of the DSE is a much cleaner install but the COVANS looks good as well. If you are on a budget, go with the COVANS with the gauges, harness, etc.. included. If you have to have the MONSTER 5 INCH GAUGES and can spring the cash... go with the DSE. Either way you cant go wrong.

      Just my two cents...

I think you can get the covans with no holes drilled as well so you can run the 5" gauges

It doesnt look like DSE makes a panel for a second gen camaro. Unless I am missing something that pretty much limits the options for him. I assume you have a 73 by your screenname.

Can anyone shed any light on this? I want to run the 5"ers and thought that there was no way to do it with Covan's.

      Thanks,

Yes, you can get the panel drilled, non-drilled, w/ or w/o gauges. I chose to have it drilled and loaded up with gauges and the harness.

Also, they make a panel for the center of the 67-68 camaro dash that helps with the cars that need quite a few added gauges...again drilled or non-drilled.

Not sure what car you have but I hope this helps....

I know on the 3rd gen novas you can put 2- 5" and 4-2 1/16" gauges if you drill them out with the blank panel...

I think I recall someone getting a setup with 5" gauges from covans for a second gen on another forum. Maybe worth a try to call them and see what they say.

I don't see the need for BIG gauges. My eyesight is just fine, and the regular sized gauges worked well for me. I had a Covan's in my last '69 and it fit great. I'll be putting another one in my new '69 project too.

I called them this morning. You can fit the 5" gauges in the undrilled panel, but if you do, you can't fit anything else.

My problem: I want a tach and speedo, but also Oil-p, Oil-t, Water-t, volts and fuel. Their panel only holds four 2" guauges if you use the 3" tach/speedo. Which leaves me one shy. I could run two big guages and a console pod, but I have the same problem.

Ideally, I'd like to put two 5" gauges in the dash along with the Oil-p, then have the remaining (oil-t, water-t, volts & fuel) in the console pod.

I hope I wont have to go with a Stack pod........$1700...yikes.
