      Garage built Buick....GN

Starting a build thread here for my 87' Buick Grand National I've owned since I was 19. It was pretty much stock original with a few basic bolt-ons and Simmons 3-piece wheels. I took it apart January 2012 and have been working on it slowly but steadily in my home garage as time and money allows. This is what I started with...Name: GN photo.jpg

My goals are to mini-tub the back and upgrade the suspension, brakes, and pretty much anything chassis related to get it ready for some road course action! After doing some track days with Bill Howell and the "American Street car Series" I am totally hooked on road courses! I've been doing some auto-x stuff too with my local SCCA but thats usually just to hold me over til I can get back on a big track. I'm starting my GN build with a fresh set of Fikse wheels in 18x9, 19x13", wrapped in 345's...Name: rear fikse.jpg

The factory fuel tank was offset to the left side of the trunk floor and It had a huge spare tire well on the right side. I cut the stock tank mounts off and smoothed the spare tire well. This way I can center the fuel tank and make room for the future frame mods.Name: tank mounts.JPG

I'm REAL curious how you plan to do the frame notch.
I'm fitting 345's onto my 71 Monte and I'm at the same s[pot you are currently.

It will remain a turbo v6/automatic. I'm not crazy about an auto trans on a road course but I want to keep it a Grand National. Its currently a stock long block with a Precision 5857 turbo and big Precision front mount. Current 2004r trans is built nicely. The motor/trans are on the back burner for now, that will probably be a separate project once the car is back together.
