WTH! No wonder new cars are so heavy. They just keep adding junk real enthusiasts dont need anyhow. I dont have the wildest cars out there, but the sound my daily driven C5 makes is 100% TexasSpeed cam!

I've heard of this. Its my understanding that they do it because a lot of the newer cars are just too quiet on the inside.

I'm so disappointed to learn this. Makes me want to stick a knife in every M5's speakers with the "computer program that plays a simulation through the car's speakers"

Yeah.. the M5 setup is easily the most disappointing. Imagine in years to come, when the electronics don't sync with the actual engine speed? :D

Disappointing that this is what things have come to. I found the article hilarious though. Would you not buy a car if it didn't "sound" like it was moving fast, even if it was? I just don't see that being a deal breaker for me.

its just the oems adopting what kids have been doing for years with fake bov's. I know I'm in the minority, but personally I try to keep my cars quiet, Id rather not be on the radar.

My friends new 2012 Boss Mustang has this weird tube going from the air intake. I asked him what was that, he said it was to pipe in the sound from the engine into the firewall so you can hear the roar of the intake when the throttle blades opened. I started laughing after he told me this. That was the first time I have seen or heard of such a thing.

I bet it plays a mental game with you when you are driving so you think your car has more performance than it really has.

I literally had this exact conversation the other night when my buddy brought his Boss over for show and tell. I just stared at him when he explained the tube. You can't be serious. Man we are getting soft.

Is it really that much different than buying "Flowmasters" or "Spintechs" because they sound "awesome!"? Sound mod is a sound mod.

This has been going on for a few years now. The Mustangs have had that pipe since at least 2009.

The difference is whether you're trying to fool other people or just yourself.

BTW, the Nissan Maxima has had a similar sound tube since about 2009 as well. The sad thing is that quite a few people who are enthusiastic enough about the car to join a Maxima forum actually like it.

That depends on who's inside the car. ;)

The difference is the factory deceptively fooling you vs. you voluntarily fooling yourself and others.

Thats the first time I have ever heard that car companies are doing this. I keep waiting to hear "april fools" or something!

Pretty lame for sure. I remember the 80-81 Z/28's that had the "Air Induction" when the 4bbl kicked in.....GIVE ME SOME FLAPS STEVE!!! LOL!!! I remember saying that!! Dooh!!! Performance? No, but sure seemed that way! LOL!

I was actually talking to a GM guy on the PT today about the CTS-V and he said the biggest complaint was there is not enough "engine sound" inside the car..... I guess it's a "real" issue!
