      Suspension Design Fail

I posted this on my FaceBook but thought some of you may want to see what I found at a GoodGuys a few years ago. I just ran across this in the pictures and wanted to share it.

In person you could tell that somebody did some good work, but had some poor planning. The frame was barely higher than the height of the tire sidewall.

This is a good example of why planning is so important...all the way down to ride height. Suspension travel is important.

Not the case here, but don't discount the ability of CG height to trump geometry concerns. There were some pics around of old TA cars with terrible geometry issues which appeared to be accepted in order to lower CG. A lot of spring can fix a lot of suspension issues.
Speaking of, isn't that a arm geometry off? Not overly familiar with C5/6, but I thought it had parallel balljoints on the lower arm. If it didn't have Air, did it have coilovers? Maybe he just put in the weeds for the admiration of the showgoers.

It had coilovers. It was definitely very clean and probably didn't have more than a few miles on it when I took that picture.

I'm also leaning toward the "low for the show" theory. The bar is spaced down, but the bar arms are way UP, so it doesn't seem like it was designed for that ride height. Funny thing is, it looks like the lowers are at different angles left to right...

Yeah, it looks like the car is at least 1.5" and maybe 2" too low. Raise it up so that the LCA mount points is just slightly higher than the lower balljoint, and it should have adequate ground clearance.

Now, that being said, the owner might not like the tire gap at the higher ride height; perhaps he fell victim to that old silly mantra about "stance being everything".

Agreed, it could possibly be corrected with some LG C5 spindles (if that is a C5 not C4 front) but as always fixing something that wasn't engineered correctly will cost more than designing it correctly the 1st time.

I think he forgot to take out the old body bushings when he put in the new ones. LOL

      Wow, look at the coils.

I wonder where this car would sit at with tall/stiffer springs. You can tell the arms are past parallel and "want" the car to be sitting higher up.
