      Wrapping headers

What do you guys think about wrapping headers? Just like to hear thoughts.....my floor boards are burning from those headers

Coating the headers would be better, but wrap does help some. My headers are wrapped on the Camaro but they still give off a good amount of heat. Heat shielding on the floors may be a better solution, like a reflective heat barrier on the underside and more insulation on the floors inside.

Stainless or mild steel? The wrap does hold moisture and retains heat in the tubing accelerating deterioration. Mild steel with start scaling within weeks. Might get a year out of the headers. Stainless is a better alternative to wrap, but the quality of stainless matters.

I have a turbo car with everything wrapped, but I have 321 stainless for tubing.

Spend the money on JetHot and a good heat barrier. Like Craig said the wrap will ruin a mild steel header very quickly. I had the steel headers on my truck JetHot coated in '01 and they still look like new.

better off with a coating, i used Jet Hot, a friend of mine wrapped his headers and they were rusty looking within the first month, i'd only use wrap as a last resort. you may even want to look into DEI insulation for the floor itself before wrapping the headers.

Thanks guys...I definitely think insulation is the way to go.....so you suggest on both sides of the floor boards?

I wrapped my headers since i bought them used and they had some surface rust on the jet hot coating. After 10 years i just re-wrapped one this year and there was no rust other than the surface rust that was already there.

I would put a reflective barrier on the underside and insulation on the inside, to keep the insulation from getting wet and possibly causing rust issues.

Are those for under the car or under the carpet?

they have very nice product and are affordable.

I used a combination of the automotive vibration mat and the thermal insulation mat.

the adhesive back can go on any surface provided you clean it well, the thicker mat is for inside use.
