67 GTO kickpanels /w speaker reccomendation

I have a 67 GTO RESTO and I'm looking for a kickpanel set-up for speakers. Has anyone used the Kenwood kickpanel product that OPGI offers and if so do they interfere with the e-brake? Any and all input would be appreciated. Also, the GTO has a vintage air system installed. Thank you in advance.

      Mike,

Great looking goat! I haven't seen the OPGI kicks, but have you considered building a set of custom kicks? Not sure where your skills fall, but since no one else jumped in, I'll share what we did on our '72 Chevelle project. We picked up a set of the repop kicks, built a set of rings, glassed the structure, finished and covered in matching vinyl.

      Good luck,
      Doug

I used the speaker kick panels but not from OPGI. Yes they interfer with the e brake. I used a small strip of metal and spaced the ebrake mounting location at the dashes edge over about an inch (no drilling required). It will allow the ebrake pedal to clear the speaker on the kick panel and still function properly.

They sound great. I actually have pioneer speakers in mine ordered from these guys. http://www.soundmove.com/gmkick.htm I have 6x9's in the rear deck and a nice Kenwood amp mounted there as well. The Kenwood head unit is hidden in the glove box. I have the I-phone compatible model. Music selection is endless. I have 4 days plus loaded without repeat. Here you go you can judge the sound for yourself click on link below.

I like the way you built the kicks for the 72, but the only thing I like to keep is the texture of the panels and if you glass them you lose that. I have a 67 Chevelle and I built buckets that mount inside the doghouse behind the kick panels. The only downside I see to it is that you lose the ventilation from the panels. I have not installed them yet bcecause I am unsure where I want to put the radio. I made them out of MDF and glassed over felt that I stretched over it.

I've had the same thought on loosing the venting and texture on the kicks. We converted from factory air to a shaved firewall and VintageAir A/C. Our speaker magnets nest into the doghouse opening in the kicks. I have a cover for the magnets that seals the doghouse and protects the speakers. Fortunately, we live in a very dry climate so I'm not to worried about defrosting. For the covering the kicks, we used a vinyl with decent texture and will tie it into the new package tray we built.

To round out our system, we are going to run JL Audio C2 separates in the kicks, C2 6x9s in the rear deck, a JL W3 10" sealed sub, driven by a JL 360x4 and 500x1.

Here is the mock up for the trunk

The trunk looks awesome, I currently have mine mocked up to do the same but I have a convertible so it is a little more time consuming. I also nest my speakers in the doghouse but they are fully enclosed into the buckets that I built, so even bad weather is not a concern.
