      68 Firebird "68 Widetrax"

This is a project I started 13 years ago as someone's left over parts car. At that time Pro touring was just getting started. But I always liked the old Trans Am and IMSA look cars. Here is my attempt to release my interpretation.
This is when I had just gotten all of the welding and grinding done on the quarter.

Size: 146.4 KBI had to weld the original quarter back on 3in out to be able to use a patch panel. The patch panel does not have the crown at the top, and are made to be spliced in on the quarters face.

Thanks for all of the compliments guys!! This is the first time I have shown anyone online my work. I have a lot more pic's of the work I have done but I will have to retrieve them from DVD's backing up my archives. If anyone wants to see what a certain stage looked like just ask!

I love wide bodies like this. Had plans to do a Mustang with my son but he is packing up to move to Ga. Maybe someday....

Its been a couple of years since I promised to put more pictures from my build, finally getting around to it.Name: 3F02-7-15(21-44).jpg
Views: 1527
Size: 36.6 KB This shows the 3 inch wide strap that I welded in between the top cut line. I had to roll and contour the back end to emulate the weld flange of the rear quarter to the tail panel.Name: 4F02-7-15(21-44).jpg
Views: 1507
Size: 51.7 KB Then I had to cut the tail light openings out and slid them out 3 inches, then filled the inside void with scrap sheet metal.Name: floor extension 1-5-02.jpg
Views: 1528
Size: 72.8 KBwhile I was working on the top of the quarter panel, I also had to address the trunk floor extension. So I cleaned all of the rusty original quarter sheet metal off of it and repaired its issues then held it 3 inches out and filled in the gap. Now you can also see the new outer wheel well that is moved out 3 inches from the original outer wheel well. A little secret I found was that the outer wheel wells are flat curved, like a 55gal drum, all you have to do is leave 4 inches of it from the pinch weld area attached to the structure, then weld the new one on 3 inches out for a 1 inch overlap. then you can index the rest of your metal from that.Name: quarter pre-fit 12-28-01.jpg

Size: 78.5 KBso my repair panel quarter then looked like this. But repair quarters do not have the crown on top because they are made to be attached on the vertical face of the panel, so I had to weld what was left of the original quarter panel back on. Then cut it back off on the vertical face.
