      67 Camaro Pro-Touring on a Budget

I know you guys need more camaro builds so I figured I'd share mine. I'm 16 and building a pro touring 67 Camaro SS/RS, or as close to pro touring as I can get. The body is in great shape except for the quarters which I'm trying to replace now. The floor is pristine and already primed, trunk pan is good, roof is pristine, it's really in great condition. So far this is what I have for the car
      - Custom Subframe with vette control arms , disc brakes, and QA1 coilovers
      - Heidts 4 Link on 12 bolt
      - Rack And Pinion Steering
      - Ididit column
      - Detroit Speed subframe Connectors that need to be installed
      - Rear disc conversion
      - Detroit Speed Mini Tubs that need to be installed
      - Dakota Digital Guages
      - Wilwood Master Cylinder
      - Procar Racing Seats
      - All the glass, all the emblems, new carpet, new outer wheel wells, hideaway headlights

I know I'm missing some things but I believe that's all the important stuff. I'm in the process of trying to replace the quarters. I have never done any body work like this but I talked to a guy about doing them and he came and looked but never got back to me. And the other prices I got were really just out of my range right now. If I mess up then I lose the 200 I paid for the quarter, so it's worth the risk to me. I have a fairly good eye and fully understand high and low spots and all that good stuff. I think I can pull it off with the help of the many internet articles. After all, it is just metal and it can all be fixed. Let me know if I'm an idiot. The plan for power is an LS with a 6 speed. On the lookout for one so if anyone has one laying around let me know. The car is going to be my daily driver by the way, and I'm trying to move pretty quickly since I turn 17 soon

Almost every single part there was with the car when I bought it. The only things I bought are the gauges, seats, disc conversion, and master cylinder. The guy I bought it from had the same goal as I do so he had most of the parts to make it into a pro touring car. I saved a lot of money this way. I mean I bought the whole car for $7500 and he paid 6,000 for just the subframe

build on!! sheetmetal is not hard, the best bet is get a cleko set and place all the panels into place before any tack welding starts, so for the quarters make sure the tail panel, inner and outer fenderwells, trunk lid and rear glass are all sitting on the car at the same time, move the panels and clamp them into place to achieve the wanted gaps then drill and cleko into place take your time

great attitude thats how i started....a headliner is just 50 bucks and an upholstery shop wanted 250 to install, so I tried it myself, boom show quality, I learned to oxyacetylene weld when i was 22 and never welded again till i was 35, but when a shop told me they wanted a hundred bucks to weld some brackets I went to harbor freight and dropped that hundo on a welder and built the entire car.....I always believe nothing ventured nothing gained

Here's where it all started back in November. Haven't gotten too much done, just suspension and some other little stuff like the brake conversion. And today I got most of the quarter off. Still have to separate it at the rocker , outer wheel housing, and tail panel. Thinking of replacing the outer housings while it's off since I have a new one. And also the tail panel since I have a new one of those too. All stuff the guy gave me with the car. Rear is painted now

Nice find. Looks like a great project.

Where are you located? There are a lot of guys that are willing to help out if you ask around.

I've approached projects the same way in terms of risk/costs and things have turned out well. Just know when you are in over your head and where/when to look for help.

I'm a beginner welder. I had a piece that needed a good quality (and good looking) weld. I did all the cutting and fabrication, lined the piece up and put a couple of tacks on it and went to a local independent welder. He charged me $20 to put a nice bead on it. He liked my project and I now have a number to call if something is beyond my skill level.

I actually bought the 4 link too. But it also came with a cowl induction hood so it was still a great deal. He gave me so many little parts that I haven't even mentioned. My neighbor is a welder so as long as everything lines up nicely, welding shouldn't be a problem

This car is very close to my goal. Same color, same stance, cowl hood, spoiler, all that. Only difference is I want all black wheels and I like offset in the front. I don't like when the wheels are flush. And obviously that paint job is ridiculous. That has to be really expensive. Anyone have any guesses on wheel/tire size?

Anybody know how the 5.3l lsx motors are? I found a pretty nice one for 1,000 and I'm reading that they are pretty much the same internally as a 5.7. With a new intake, cam, and I guess injection system, do you think it could reliably put out a lot of power? Could it handle a turbo? Id love to be somewhere near 550-600. And what would it take to switch it to a manual?

pretty sure it could handle a turbo, it just how much boost you would be running, before things start breaking internally. But 550-600 you can probably pull that without a turbo system. Turbo, systems are quite expensive, but now is the time to do it because waiting would make you change a lot of things, repurchase things etc. But it might derail your project finishing date. I have about 7k in my turbo system so far and its just for a sbc

I guess ideally what I would want to do is buy a complete LS1 with a t56 and just install that engine and deal with a measly 350 hp for my first few months of driving. Then eventually tubocharge it.
