DriverzInc: 1970 Nova build under way!

      Hi Everyone,

I've been delaying posting our new project car for lack of a name, but its long over due, and we'll just have to come up with a name for it as we go along. All suggestions are appreciated.

I personally bought this car from my good friends Travis and Jaime, who originally started the project as "nuckin futz". After losing steam on the project, I offered to take it off their hands, and we worked out a deal, and I bought the car.

The car already came with some key features and some misc parts that I will be using. 468 big block, 4L80E, front clip and 4 link rear, etc.

      Here's the project: 1970 Nova

      • Chassisworks front subframe
      • Varishock double adjustable coil-overs, power rack and pinion
      • Wilwood W6A calipers, 14" rotors
      • DSE mini tub
      • Chassisworks 4 link with Varishock adjustable coil-overs
      • Chassisworks sub frame conectors
      • Currie narrowed 9", Strange Aluminum 3rd member
      • Fully fabricated roll cage
      • JCG stretched fenders, and "other" metal work (stay tuned)
      • 19x9.5 and 19x12 NewGen LITEs in 3 piece competition line
      • 275/30/19 and 335/30/19 NT05s
      • Fesler "first off" interior door panels
      • Fesler billet accessories
      • Custom sheet metal/leather interior

My overall theme for the appearance of the car is a cross between vintage trans/am, and pro-touring.

My goal for the car is to compete and have fun on track days, Good-Guys Auto X events, and hopefully... the optima Challenge 2011. That just seems like a lot of fun!

I also want to collaborate with some of the vendors and friends and relationships we've built in the industry. I think the relationships and friendships that we've built up over the years is the sole reason why we continue to work at making DriverzInc.com grow, and its the one reason why I continue to work hard at developing our business.

A BIG thank you in advance to all those who have already contributed to the project. We're going to need a lot of help along the way guys. If anyone is interested in helping out, please let me know. I plan to run a logo panel across the rocker panel of all the companies that have contributed to the build.

      JCG: Exterior metal fabrication
Fesler: Billet Accessories, and future interior door panels
      Wilwood: Brakes
      Chassisworks: Suspension
Currie: 9" rear, 3rd member, axles
      Ididit: Column and keyless ignition
      ISIS: 3 cell wiring harness
Twist Machine: Shrifter paddle shifter, CompuShift, Torque Converter
      Nitto: NT05 Tires
Mario US Collision: PPG paint and supplies
      PRRC: Paint and Body, Fabrication

Here is the rough draft rendering Ben has put together:

Paint: Matte Pearl White. Yes, matte. I'm a big fan of matte colors, and I want to use DriverzInc company colors on this car as it is going to be a bill board for our business, so white, grey, and orange.
Note: I already made a change to the wheel finish: matte black centers, with matte gun metal outers.

This introduction post is already getting lengthy, so I am going to stop here, and start a new post updating what has already been done to the car, and where we are currently with the build.

Loving the rendering Jon, I have been wanting to do a lot of the body-mods you have planned. Especially the front bumper, and fender vents. I would love to see how you guys plan on doing the bumpers and front valance.

You're even using the wheels I want!

      Love it.

Have a give away contest for whoever names the car. Offer a shirt or something....great looking project! You could always just name it LOGO...

Can't wait to see it and your shop Cris!

Do you think you will have the fenders pulled by then? I would like to see how it is done in person (thinking about this for mine).

So this how the car started out when Travis and Jaime bought it in 2008 and I towed it home for them:

It was fully disassembled, and blasted:

Front subframe was rattle canned matte black for mock up only. Eventually, everything will be powder coated:

Some more of the Chassisworks Stuff:

      And the DSE mini tub:

      The 468 Big Block:

We'll be keeping the big block, and are planning on tearing it down, going through it, and making sure everything is "right". We didn't build the motor, one of Travis' buddies did but the exact specs are unknown, so we'll go through it. I've never owned a big block car, so I figured why not keep it for now, and see what we can get out of her.

And this is the stage in the build that I took possession of the car:

This will be awesome when done. Cool thoughts behind this build and can't wait to see it on the track.

Thanks Mary! We're going to have to work in a spot for a "Stick you b*tch" sticker...

This looks to be an awesome project. I always loved these body style Novas. And to see the New gen Lite's on there will be pretty sick looking. Nice work Jon

So my fabricator started by building the cage. This is the first time we've fully fabricated a cage for a car. We've done pre-runner truck stuff, but it turned out pretty sweet.

Started with the main loop, and built all the kickers off of it from there:

Kickers to the rear, and the cross bar behind the seats:

We made sure there was enough room to push the seats back. Justin is 6'6", and I wanted to make sure we all could get in it and throw the car around corners:

The Sparco's I bought from Rick at Baer Brakes for a screaming deal. I originally wanted Cobra seats, but you gotta cut some corners somewhere and capitalize on deals where you can get them, and the Sparco's are great, and even Justin fits in them:

Figures the Nova guys were the first to reply!

Looks like a great build. You'll love that big block power! What's the plan for the wheels? Can't wait to see the updates....
