Mary Pozzi's 73 Camaro - Project Jenny Craig

Because this Camaro is on a DIET!!

Yep, as if she wasn't fast enough in her leaf-sprung Camaro, Autocross Maven Mary Pozzi is giving her F-body a full makeover.

The plan is to ditch the 383 SBC and Richmond trans in favor of an LS engine and T56 Magnum six-speed. And the weight savings won't stop there thanks to a stack of carbon fiber parts from Anvil Auto.

Mary also thought that, since the car would be all apart, it was the perfect time to stip the body down and add a fresh coat of paint.. will it be red? Orange? Blue? The jury's still out, but it's going to look way better.

There's also talk of mini-tubs, but she is firmly set on keeping her leaf spring suspension.

The crew at JCG Restorations will be doing the makeover and the general plan is to have the Camaro back on the road in a few months. Look for updates here and a there will be an LS install story in a future issue of Camaro Performers Magazine.

      Let the games begin...

If I had to pick a driver to autocross the Russians for the fate of the free world, It would be Mary Pozzi.

It would be like a Cheetah running down a four year old.

      So there.

      LOL Love the name!
I say any color but blue so as not to depress the DSE peeps into thinking that there is a faster blue second gen.

      Congrats on the upgrades Mary!

I am impressed that she is staying with the leafs. That is commitment, especially when it would be "easy" to throw a nice aftermarket setup in there while the car is under the knife. This should be fun to watch.

I am very happy for her on the upgrades!!

but...I really like the fact that she has an older set up in that car and still whoops on everyone!! No offense but every camaro out there has an LS motor in it...mini tubs...this...that...she stuck out from the crowd!! She is keeping the leaf springs which is amazing...just sad to see such an icon get the "norm".

Oh that is just fricken great! Make the car lighter and faster! As if she is not hard enough to handle already!

In all seriousness, great news. A nicer lady I never met! Very deserving!

Ask yourself "why do people run LS engines?"

This is a way to knock off a TON of weight which will make the car handle even better.. She has skill, but her car does hold her back a bit.. this will let her drive closer to her potential.

The suspension really isn't changing and she's NOT putting on 335 tires.. just a bit wider.

The Richmond shifted like a box of loose rocks.. the Magnum will be much better.. mainly it's about ditching weight and making the car a bit nicer. We found some bad rust (bondo'd over by the previous owner) in the lower fender.. the rest looked pretty good.

Not bad for two days work...

Let me have at it for a little while longer with the Dewalt grinder and a stack of slitting blades. I'm gonna give Jenny a real nip-tuck.

I hear ya. It is always good to upgrade the car. I just personally like the look of a older motor vs an LS style motor. On the other hand I do like the look of a camaro screaming around the corners....soooo this will be good!
